I would love to agree with you because I get tired of seeing an animal design win every week, but I really don't think anyone with eyes could deny that Cho has incredible talent. This shirt is amazingly well drawn. I won't vote for it because I would never buy something like this, and I only vote for things that I would definitely buy, but it's going to win. And it deserves to. I just wish he'd draw something besides an animal for a couple weeks. There's no way he's cheating though. Everyone knows woot has the most hits when a new shirt is first up for sale. So, why wouldn't that be the best time to enter a shirt in the derby? More people will see it and vote. He's just smart. Not a cheater.

Duck Hunt was a 1984 Nintendo game. I can remember playing it at a friend's house. I wish the graphics of the game had looked like this shirt.

I want to know if you use illustrator for your final designs, or some other program? I'm kinda new to this whole web-publishing of my work and the detail in your work is amazing. I can't seem to get my designs to look this crisp or clean.

actually imo some people are more jealous that cho wins and gets the money each week. But he is an artist so why shouldnt he win. Most weeks there arent 3 shirts really worthy of printing.

I have a question, is that darkest of brown color used for cross shading and the eyes just the shirt color shining through? If it is, then the shirt has 6 spot colors plus the shirt, if not, then its 7. Also, does anyone know if the light-gun is trademarked by nintendo. Hopefully none of this stuff has too much bearing, as it is a fantasticly executed design.

I don't think Cho needs to do animals. But neither is it just because of his name - his designs are consistently amazing and, whether you agree or not, consistently wearable. You may not like animals on shirts, but a great deal of people do.

Believe it or not, most people vote based on the DESIGN, not the designer. Look at the people commenting - for the most part, it's the same names over and over again. Most voters don't even know who these designers are - they just pop in and vote on a few designs, then check out until the results are put up. If they see something they particularly like, they might leave a generic "oh wow!" comment - but aside from the vocal minority, most of the voting wooters have no clue who is designing what.

Yes, Cho has a lot of fans. That's because Cho is a great designer. If he put up a crappy design, people wouldn't vote for it just because it's Cho's.

If you want to argue that people are like sheep, you should point to the fog and the hotness, because many people will only look at and vote on those top designs, leaving many other great entries lost at the bottom.

And it should be noted that Cho doesn't actually place in every derby.

People frustrated with the same artists winning every week need to reflect on the purpose of the derby. It's purpose is to print the three best shirts, and while it usually falls flat of this goal, the fact is that the people who get printed most often are the ones who bring high quality design with high quality concept.

Or, to break it down another way, "he has talent, but" is saying that talent shouldn't be a basis on quality. It is. You want fewer prints by an artist, you get other good artists. You want more Limes In Coconuts, you go to another site.

Indeed. Even within woot itself, you can see quality differences. "Boston Party" was a clever and slick play on a popular saying, while "Best thing since" not only looked like a mirror image, but used weaker, more awkward wording. "Pockets of Spring" was pretty nondescript and clipart-y compared to Tgent's lush and artistic "Watch it Grow." "Angry Day" not only trumps most designs as simple as it is, but the concept itself is made stronger by the sheer whimsical nature of the admittedly hasty-looking animals.

And to be captain annoying, there are also other sites where they showcase unartistic gimmick shirts. Based on most dailies, I'd say woot isn't that place either.

True, but you're kind of disagreeing with yourself on the purpose. Woot always prints the three best shirts, since they define "better" as having more votes. The Adder or haxrox standard for "better" is reflected in the form of one vote, like everyone else's, and the aggregate is woot's "better".

That's an excellent way to state the case. If someone says "he has talent," they should just stop - he has talent, and that's what matters.

I disagree with that last statement though - Lime in the Coconut is a genious shirt. It's clever (in a "why didn't I think of that?" kind of way), it's simple and well-designed, it references a hilarious song - what's not to love?

Here's my theory, Cho wins because he produces a lot of designs within the first day. Typically I see 3 a derby, which means he has lots of ideas.

So basically.

lots of ideas + quick turnaround + good steady design skills = steady wins.

My 9 to 5 gets in the way of implementing this formula for myself but some day...

Go to shirtderbystat.com and you will see that cho has 16 shirt designs that have placed 4-10 compared to 12 that placed 1-3.

Jenny, he draws animals because 1- he draws them well and 2- they sell. If people wanted to buy pictures of kitchen appliances, he would probably draw them instead. In capitalism, catering to the customer is seen as a virtue (i.e the customer is "always" right).

So I disagree with you. People buy his stuff, not just because he drew it, but because he drew it for THEM.

Now, he may not see it that way. And you may have a problem with what the average voter wants. Many of us do. But this is what woot is today, and the guys in Carrollton seem to be OK with it.

I remember playing the arcade version of this game called "Vs. Duck Hunt" and it was fun! It was really funny when I shot the dog by accident, then it scolded me as it sometimes jumped up in the air while trying to chase the ducks out. Damn you for reminding me of my age! ;_;

You are misunderstanding the stat. The stat wasn't a comment on total entries, only high placing entries (entries in top 10).

It might be copyrighted, but the gun that the duck is holding is not the same as the actual light gun - the only real similarity is the colour. Someone posted a photo of the light gun earlier - take a look and compare. The design is quite different. =)

My boyfriend already has Cat-fu and the Penguin Tycoon. I think as soon as he sees this, he'll want it as well. My honey pie only wears woot shirts designed by Cho!

Sorry im a newbie to shirt.woot but i have no idea who Cho is, but I still think this design is sweet. Isnt Cho Harry Potter's love interest? I take it Cho has been the designer of several sweet woot shirts. Oh and I dont think he is the only person that likes to draw animals we have a pothead lion today on woot and an unpatriotic eagle yesterday and all the derby winners last week were animals. Maybe this speaks more about the shirt.woot community. We love animals...
