i wonder if this would fall under the "no star wars" rule. but i suppose it has been parodied so many times it hardly even feels like star wars anymore.

Cool design. Gad to see us both bounce back after last week (I liked both of our designs last week, too, but by the end of the week we didn't have 100 votes between the two of us!)

I like the shirt, it's your best design yet. I don't like seeing you respond to questions from multiple accounts though. If you're logging in with multiple voting-enabled accounts you're probably also giving yourself extra votes, and that ain't cool.

No kidding! Keys and DL gives you freedom from your parents. But, then you are a slave to your car and gas payments.

Re: EPIC Teen Independence

As a Star Wars fan, and also a fan of teenagers who rock the Hugh Jackman Wolverine hairstyle, I like this. My only complaint is the placement; if it was dead center of the shirt I'd buy one without hesitation, but I'm not a big fan of shirts with their placement as low as this one is, thus I'd hesitate before buying ... but knowing me, I'd still buy.

huh. Either you were never a teen boy, or ... well or. I was never a teen boy myself, but I could pretty much tell what my boyfriend thought of himself when he drove up after just getting his driver's license, and this pretty much says it all.

Perfect design for the theme. Captures universal rite of passage brilliantly. Amazing drawing skill, as always. Excellent placement choice.

I couldnt agree more, This is one of the best entries that i have seen so far for this derby. I felt like i gained so much freedom when i got my drivers license, No more asking mom or dad if they could take me somewhere or pick me up. I also felt like the girls would look at me different and maybe i'd get lucky and one would start talking to me.

I'd wear this shirt, Good job and good luck! I hope it wins!

I completely agree. Still gets my vote and I'll probably buy it if it makes it, but the design is a little bit low.

Nice design. I think we all have felt like this at some point in our lives (meaning we've all had women hanging off of us. Not the DL thing).

Dude, this shirt is hilarious. It really vacuums that everybody chose those other ones as the frontrunners, because I'm not even remotely interested in the ones in the fog right now.

But really, excellent design, hilarious shirt, would love to see this one printed. Only criticism is that I wish it was a really crappy station wagon in the background to make it even funnier, but that's not really a flaw of this shirt at all.

I didn't want to have any particular make of car behind the characters, but I did have subcompact and station wagon as influences.

Re: EPIC Teen Independence

Could somebody link the Star Wars image that this parodies? I'm curious to see it as I had no idea that the gestures were evoking Star Wars until it was commented on. I went looking for it but gave up after about five minutes due to the ocean of images and me not knowing more specifically what I'm looking for.
Chris, your shirt designs are incredible. Really awesome work. They always deserve more votes than they get, but that seems to be the nature and bane of woot.shirt.

Greatest song ever written about JFK here. NSFW... or children... or anyone who's offended by the idea that JFK might have been a robot... fair warning.

Thanks for the kind words.

As for the Star Wars reference I do see where people are getting that from, but its not what I based this design off of. I think people relate this to Star Wars purely because that is what they are familiar with.

Making the design I had Army of Darkness, Conan the Barbarian, Vacation, and Indiana Jones in my head.

Awesome. Some of the greatest movies of all time... and by that I mean especially Army of Darkness. I, for one, think these derbies would go alot smoother if instead of tablet pens we could use our boom-sticks.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you keep at it. Take care.

I believe they're referring to posters such as this:

source

...and this:

source

I definitely see the resemblance, although it is also a well-used theme in movie posters. Was there a movie that used that style before Star Wars (1979)? Conan was '82, Vacation was '83, AoD was '92, and Raiders was '81. I suspect that the pose originated from Star Wars.

Anyway, I really love the design, ChrisRisse, and am surprised to see it so low in the rankings. Deserves far better.
