I know the pun has been done before. I pretty much assumed that most puns have been done before in some way shape or form. I haven't seen it interpreted in this way, though, so I think it should be ok.

IMO, it is *totally* different than the Threadless shirt. Way different vibe. Really, just look at the other entries so far--- you're going to get a lot of the same puns. The execution is what makes this stand out.

I like the concept, but I don't see any salt in the design. I see a dead shaker of dark gray pepper and a live shaker of lighter gray pepper.

I was thinking of doing something similar with Assault and Battery, but I gave up on it. Mine was going to be the energizer bunny being arrested for battery.

This is really cute. I love the "A salt and battery" pun, and this is a really nice take on it. For some reason I really like the shading on the salt shaker - specifically the light gray/creme color over the eyes. Not sure why. >_>

You have a very distinctive style, Boots - this is really cute.
I'm glad you went with the simple heart and took out the thought bubble. I think it stands well with the simple implication - the concept isn't watered down at all.

I agree, the hand holding and heart make the story very clear, the thought bubble before was kinda clutter and redundant..

Pepper was a hot guy when he was young and fresh, but later, he was just another hothead. Battery is a more reliable, steady fellow. Except when he's all charged up for a fight. Then his actions can be really shocking.

Will Salt and Battery make it as a couple, or will Salt's sister Sugar, a sweet young thing, cause the relationship to decay when she comes to town? Or will she just spice things up a bit?

And is Pepper really dead, or has he just been ground down a bit?

Awww this is awesome. I love your illustration style, it's so appealingly cute without being super duper cute. Also, I dont think you have to worry about any similarities. The concept does exist, but this is your personal execution of it, which is different . Great job as always!!

The more I look at this, the more I enjoy the idea presented in it. It's telling a wonderful story. (Well, that might not be the traditional use of the word wonderful! )

From the looks of it, you're going to print again this derby- through no one's fault but your own. Each time I see one of your designs, I find myself drawn in, loving the way your mind fleshes out ideas to put on 'paper'. Your shirts always seem to read like those wonderfully creepy science fiction stories (the one that come's instantly to mind is 'It's a Good Life' by Jerome Bixby-- if you haven't read it, you should. I can imagine you finding fodder for a couple wonderful shirts in that story)

Anyhow, congrats on great ideas and execution, congrats on your current print, and congrats on what I'm sure will be your next one!

That's why it's so great! It's not just an illustration of assault and battery, it actually has some assault and battery shown too! If only the pepper was also salt, then the battery would be battering and assaulting the salt! But that might be going too far!

Yeah the pun has been done before, but that shirt is not like this one in concept or design. If they're going to keep the computer mice one when there is a design shown that is too similar to it, then this deserves to stay.

I love this shirt, infact one almost identical that I bought from Pacsun about a year ago, the only different is it just has the battery and salt, not the pepper on the ground. Infact here is the shirt I have, just on a different site.

well following that logic there was a shirt/design like the david and goliath one already anyway, so it really doesnt matter. just depends on how the woot rejectors feel, if this is in fact a copy of an existing shirt, or a copy of a copied shirt

There are two points here: first is that boots' shirt doesn't look like the D&G one (the dead pepper on the ground is what makes this shirt), and second is that D&G is a company not worth defending. And to extrapolate further, if the D&G design is stolen it's from something which also doesn't look like boots' design, because THEY ARE DIFFERENT DESIGNS.

I haven't voted for this because I honestly wouldn't wear it (it's just not my style), but seeing people try to defend one of the more ethically reprehensible "design" companies in the US on what is a tenuous connection at best is a bit maddening.

yeah i dont think its a copy of that design either (boots' is far more elaborate and doesnt look the same in style), but it is up to the woot people to decide.

i just dont think its right to say that because someone else has copied something, you are allowed to copy them. its a bit hypocritical, and if you are copying an already copied design then you are further harming the original artist

One of my coworkers has this idea/design on a poster in his office as well. It's far from an original idea, but I'm not accusing anyone of stealing the design or anything.
