Without them I could see the shirt as a sort of "kids these days" commentary. Instead, the words imply a tone towards people who DO enjoy National Parks of stupidity and easy amusement.
However, I do immensely like the artwork and the style of the design! I would just like the interpretation to be a little more ambiguous.
See, I think it's nice to have, for once, a different stance than "kids these days". One can't even take that stance anymore and have an ounce of originality. The tone this one takes is snarky, yes, but I think it's also a swipe at people who go to national parks simply because, well, that's what you're supposed to do on a vacation and that's that. The fact that the dad is saying "a tree!" and not, say, "The legendary General Sherman sequoia, one of the largest living things on earth!" tells a lot of the shirt's story.
