Shirt.Woot

I have an idea: How about an easy method of submitting ideas for future derbies for us less-artistically inclined people? (Or for artistically-inclined people too! ;) )

I think it would be interesting to see what kind of ideas people have and it'd definitely bring another customer-oriented element to the shirt design process.

I guess the two easiest ways this could be done are : A user submits an idea through a form...woot staff pick the best of the crop. Or...there could be a derby-like thing, where people vote for the best user-submitted ideas.

Thoughts?

It sounds like a good way for more people to participate in the derbies, but there are going to be a horde of ideas to sort through since coming up with one is a lot easier than illustrating it.

This is true. Obviously there would have to be the usual obscenity filters and spam filters...that would help reduce the amount of junk anyway.

These forums are usually monitored, so why not just make suggestions and let woot! moderators pass the good ones along. I'm sure noone is looking for recognition if their theme idea is chosen...could give you alot of lead time on a design...

Another idea I have that I'd love to see would be "cliches" and again, the catch would be no text allowed. I think this is another idea that would really require designers to think outside the box and I think we'd get some really creative results.

snort! so lets have a derby for the derbies. But yeah I know what you mean. Fire and water would be cool.

Some of you derby winners and runner-ups should go into business asking for ideas.. Like the OP said.. some of us aren't the best artists, but also have great ideas. User submits you an idea and the commission is split 50/50 if said shirt wins.

if people are already winning derbies, do they really need to be buying other people's ideas?

there are certainly collaboration possibilities, but I'm not sure if the consistently high ranking designers will have much interest.

Extreme Sports. Not like off road ATV thing. Only idea I have is playing hacky sack with a nuclear bomb

What about a theme like free for all. We choose what ever we want and then we vote on the best.

I have a feeling this week's contest is thanksgiving... so next week I'm hoping for a Black Friday derby!! For all those who stay through the night for a discount... go figure

I'd love a football shirt.

Failing that, I think an "OH THE HUGEMANATEE!" shirt would be fantastic!

A few themes I'd like to see:
- Fake rock band tour shirts
- Christmas shirts (pretty sure this will happen anyway)
- A riffing derby = since Woot owns the shirts that have won the derby (they don't necessarily own the rights to the non-derby shirts though), have people go through all the old winning designs and mix, match, and redo some of the ideas with new art.

An artist after my own creative heart.

I decided, if I ever got more seriously into the print-world, and could improve those pesky drawing skills to a degree where I could more adequately express complicated concepts, that I'd have a sideline of exactly this sort of thing. One of my designs in "dreams" already went the song route, but I had some concepts in "winter" that were based on some esoteric literature... never went into realizing them, tho. I've decided to keep them for me, so to speak.

Still, I think if there was a good way to prove the inspiration (quotes in the shirt comps? I dunno) a theme like this would be incredibly creative. Or we'd just have 100 book covers live traced, the top-10 fog entries would reflect the current top 10 charts, or everyone would do tree designs and claim they were inspired by Joyce Kilmer. Whatever. I think it'd be made of awesome.
