Son in law news - seems odd to be glad that someone is going to be able to go on chemo, but as you know, he has not been able to do so for a couple of months due to high liver counts, was losing a tremendous amount of weight, and was in a lot of pain. Things are looking up in that chemo can start again in a week (hope all of the necessary scans will not disclose new growth), pain in under control, and his appetite is back and he has gained 10 lbs. Yeah. Oh, yes, being happy about weight gain is another oddity to me but in these circumstances . . . .

Thank you one and all for your good thoughts and prayers for him. His prognosis is still the same, but hopefully, he will have a quality of life that will enable him to go and do and feel pretty well again. I am very grateful for your good wishes and so is he.

Sounds like good news. Continuing thoughts and prayers.

Bottom line is, it's easier to get work done if you can run by a developer cube yelling, "THE SKY IS FALLING! HELP US ALL! WE'RE DOOMED!"

I would think that working from home all the time is boring.
Although in ny, where 2 to 3 hours a day commute is normal, and you may very well be standing that entire time....will maybe home isn't bad.

I've worked from home on and off for the last 10 years. It does get boring, but it is nice as well. I like being able to have flexibility, to roll out of bed and work for a bit. Too shower in the afternoon in the hot summer. It's also distracting if something needs tidying. It gets lonely and you have to make a point to go out. I am more productive if I can have quiet - which is why my last office worked out well - I was almost always alone. It's nice to not have to work and to wander offices to chat and bounce ideas or go to coffee social too, I do miss those things. It's also nice to go ask a stupid question for something you forgot to write down instead of drafting an email. For Orc, because of his hearing issue, online is actually easier, because most people just aren't tolerant enough to accommodate someone with a hearing disability, no matter how good they are at what they do. Think of all the jokes of women loosing it with their husbands for not listening while watching football...

Klozit - I'm so glad for the good news! I hope all stays stable for the week. I know how unpredictably that can go.

On the Amazon issue - I've heard the tax thing may be changing as many states want tax revenue from Amazon. I can't blame them, we do quite a bit of shopping out of state, mostly because our only option locally for common household items is Walmart and that doesn't offer much choice. Other small towns have the same problem.

I looove working at home. No one expects something of me before 9 a.m. and I can work at midnight. I can do laundry, fix dinner, all that stuff. I can go to lunch with friends or talk on the phone for an hour. Downside - you have a seven-day workweek. If the work's sitting there, you don't say, well, it's Saturday, I'll wait till Monday. You could, but you're thinking about it then, so might as well do it.

Re : the Amazon tax thing...

I get updates constantly - and Amazon is in half of them. Some view them as great for standing up against the nexus rules. Others view them as a bully trying to skirt charging tax where they should.

They are kind of leading things right now - if states can get them to charge tax by working deals with them, then expect it to be more common.

Hurts the smaller online retailers rather than them. seems to me, Amazon is so big that it isn't as much of a burden for them to collect the tax and report it, than it would be for a small online seller who truly only has a presence in one state.

Very true! My mom is an Amazon Marketplace seller now, if they passed down the tax stuff for her to deal with they would probably have to bring on a tax specialist and that would make it completely unprofitable for them. As it is they don't make a lot of money anyway. They had to stop carrying some products they used to carry in their retail setting because the manufacturers didn't want them on Amazon. The store they used to be next to used Amazon to supplement their income, it was the only way their brick and mortar stayed open as long as it did.

Yay for quiet time! The girls just got up from their quiet time here. Not being too loud yet.

Howdy all. Couldn't sleep much last night/morning. Slept in and woke up in time to shower before baby buddy arrived so his parents could go out for their Valentine's Day dinner and a movie. He's sleeping now. As soon as he's in a deep sleep, I'm gonna wash down the kitchen counters. That dark granite really shows dust and I have more dust in the house now thanks to the cat litter box.
