Make that three. Except for a house and a car, have the money first, then buy. And, actually, we've bought a couple cars with cash.
Only use a credit card in an emergency. Now, there's a novel idea.

I"ll be #4. Though... we use our credit card all the time, but we pay it off monthly. Husband is more of a saver than I am, so we balance each other out fairly well.

wow. credit cards being used for their intended purposes!

WHat I am waiting for is for Countrywide to send me a letter saying "Mr. 9226, you have been such a nice guy and have always paid your mortgage on time, we want to thank you for sticking with us during our time of being scraped over the hot coals, and we have, as our way of saying thank you, refinanced your mortgage at no cost to you at a much lower rate without extending the length of your remaining mortgage."

I can still dream, right?

Eh. Hubs and I have used credit in a number of situations that weren't necessarily 'emergencies', however, we knew that incurring the debt would prove beneficial in the long-run. We haven't used credit on, like...$3,000 D&G sunglasses or anything. Just...say, a laptop that I could use for my writing. Stuff like that. Well, and that trip to Paris. Although, I'll happily and gladly pay interest on that.
Edit: We didn't actually put our trip to Europe on credit. I hope it's clear that's a joke.

Today's pants smell like:

Mr. Kneny,

the intended purpose of credit cards is to make money for the issuers of said cards.

We use credit cards to buy gas at Costco, among other things. The annual "cash" back is a bonus.

Charges are paid back in full at the end of the month.

Morning all.

Make me #5 or whatever number we are up to. I don't even own a house, because when Orc and I went to buy something there was nothing in a price range that would give us a fixed rate mortgage, and we ended up passing on the whole mess. As for credit cards, emergencies and plane tickets/rental cars (because you can't get those things without them). I do understanding the charging things to build credit (which I think is a stupid way to prove you are financially responsible), and have helped my sister do that - she had the cash to buy a laptop, but I co-signed a credit card for her so she could "build credit". Of course, now my sister has a house. . . .hmmmmm.

Not that anyone on this thread cares, but I guess Mr. Wonderstew's threshold for entering the Derby is somewhere between $500.01 and $1,000.

The interesting part is the government is encouraging crazy spending.
They don't encourage saving at all.
But then they will be shocked when nobody has money to retire and need more social services when they get old.

Ms. Name,

Spending now helps the economy now, makes people happy and gets them reelected. Nobody cares about the future, when many of the politicians will be dead anyway.

So it's generally agreed by many in this thread that we're financially responsible, or at least smart enough to know where to draw the line.

Now I have another question before I go off to a meeting: We can enter the shirt derby, right, and send over a shirt design and a shirt detail image, right, and they can be jpg, png, or gif images right? I know the "no gradients in the thumbnail" rule, but have I missed the "no animated gif thumbnail images" this entire time? How much trouble will I get myself in if I try doing that later this week? Now that I have those things figured out to a small degree, I think I could hook one of those animated gif images up to an entry here...

And I like Mr. stew's entry. There's lots of people in the little cars, but just the one in the big red SUV. ANd I like the colors.

Mr. Kneny,

You'd probably be better served posting this in the Derby thread or even the Cyberpub, but I thought woot converted everything to .jpg, which I think doesn't support animations. You could try, though, and prove me wrong (not difficult to do, really).

Mr. Kneny,

I seem to draw the line at buying anything from woot. Or at least waffling so much that it's sold out before I decide to buy.
