Re: Good on French Fries...Not on Slugs!

Can't really see how this was off topic since I specifically designed it for this weeks contest. Rejecting it was kinda pointless anyway since it had no chance of winning. My cute little salted slug is truly devastated because he thinks its personal. Its cause he's blue, right? Do you discriminate against smurfs, too? Yeah, with the smurfs, you can blame it on copyright infringement, but I know the real deal. I'll make sure to bring the slug back in tears in a future design! Then everybody will cry for him! Wooters unite behind the sorrow of my slug!

spilzer wrote:Boots, you rock my socks. I was away for the weekend so I missed the earlier version, but I think this one is great. The smugness of the pot seems totally appropriate, and in my opinion better than a mean-looking pot. It's a power struggle between cook and pot and the knowing smile on the winner's face is just priceless. In addition, I think the drawing style and colors compliment your concept very well. Congrats on a great design, hope it stays in the fog and makes it to print.

!! Thanks!

jokerst wrote:hey, i'm sorry to hijack you`re posting, (great piece by the way) but how do you make it have the ruffled look that yours has? I can't tell if the actual picture itself is ruffled, but i like how the shirt looks. I believe that i found a guide for how to do it a while ago, but i can't find it again. Any advice

If I understand you correctly, this tutorial might be what you are looking for. I hope this helps.

One would think that after years of study, someone would know how to spell Michelangelo. I would be interested to read your expert critique of this design. However, comparing it to masters like Michelangelo and da Vinci? I don't think even Ramy would dare claim that.

Since these are extremely common cooking herbs, I felt the theme was clearly evident (like using salt or pepper)... certainly it's up to the powers that be to decide, but the confusion might be because of overlapping themes like harvest, BBQ, etc where some designs work for multiple themes.

Most amazing shirt ever!!! I really really want one... I love the earthy tones, too. Is it scratch and sniff? I can make it be so...

I cook with these herbs all the time... and only fresh, never dried. I love the flowers on the thyme. They're very identifiable. Great shirt!

ramyb wrote:Because the design is very tall, it is extremely shrunken in the comp, but the halftones are actually fairly large (and relatively larger than I normally do)- I believe the smallest is several points in diameter.

Here is a closeup for you though:

I'll be sure to submit my print-ready for you a day early for review though, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again to everyone who has enjoyed and commented on the design

Since woot sees fit to yet again censor the message since they are going to let this get past rejection they don't want anyone dissuaded from buying it. I repeat:

This will look exactly like the close up version on the shirt. Every shirt here that has printed with significant half tones, the dots are very very obvious. Not to mention that the cauldron and cat will not be visible since everyone who has ordered a dark colors on dark shirts knows that they blend together into an indistinguishable haze.

When this does print, it will make me laugh that this shirt is headed straight to the rag pile.

Are there three greens on the close-up image? It looks like there is an ink layer under the halftones. If so, that is going to be miserable.

Miserable why, for those of us who don't know? Is it because the ink will be so thick, or because it will look bad?
