Absolutely love this one. It creeps me out- but in a great, spooky 'it's halloween' kind of way!

Can't wait to buy one!

Something else I love about this one - even though it fits the Halloween theme, I'd be happy wearing it at other times of the year as well. Wish it was in the fog.

Please... I know that you have talent. Please, please, please, please, please, PLEASE use it! Don't put shirts like this up. Don't get rejected, and then resubmit the same shirt again. Please don't do this to us.
Please.
Please.

i'm not really for or against this shirt...but it looks like it's doing pretty damn well in the fog. from a sales standpoint i think that it would probably be in woot's favor to not reject it.

it'll be interesting to see what happens...

30 - 40% chance it gets rejected for being recycled from your previous entry.

My $.02. Change the eyes on the pumpkin to look up at the kitten and give it a broader smile.

Just put a pumpkin crawling out of a kittens head.

I like it- seems like the text doesn't add to it much as the message is really there in the art. I guess if anything the "I did" is too obvious, wheras "Save the guts!" is pretty funny. Still has my vote!

I like all the peep characters. If I were to change anything, I'd un-isolate them, so they look there is some sort of interaction between them. As is is good to however, because it does show the differences. Nice job. GMV

Yeah, I actually was running other presentations through my head before finalizing the design since I don't typically do the multi-box thing, but when the idea first popped into my head it was to have them on display in boxes, like in a museum, so I decided to go with something similar to my first instinct on this one.

If anything, I think actual labeled display cases may have been a bit nicer, but was afraid that the peeps would end up too small (since there are 9 of them), that the text on the labels would take away from the fun of figuring each one out, and that it would detract from the peeps themselves, so I just kept it as simple as possible.

Thanks for the positive feedback and constructive criticism!

Besides the flagrant disrespect of the resubbing, tThis shirt is really just awful. I cannot imagine my friends, their children or their mothers wearing it. Maybe the men are the ones voting?? Really, you wear Halloween shirts maybe 1-3 days of the year, and if you're here voting, you probably already own one Halloween shirt, so how can this possibly be your choice for the other 1-2 days when there's Boots and Draxxx (and Draxxx and Draxx...) entries and other wonderful offerings? I just cannot picture who would wear this???

Back in the harvest derby, I said I wanted to rethink my design and rework it and that I'd share if I got around to it. I wanted to give it more of a creepy halloweeny feel while retaining the aspects of the original that I liked. Hope you enjoy

And it's funny, to be fair - the degree to which Woot and the Rejectionator swing around on the whims of the vocal commenters with no regard for reality is frustrating. The video game references ban being one of the most egregious examples, but this rejection being, frankly, another.

So a flat-out mockery of the rejectionator, especially with the frankly downright hilarious addition to the already overwrought conceptual interpretation of the shirt is, really, fine by me.

I'm all for the video game references ban, actually. I think far too many uncreative, referential (as opposed to parody) designs had printed. Perhaps it was harsh, but I think it was necessary for the good of the site.

And while this will get rejected, it's unconscionable that this design is fogged ahead of two Drakxxx designs.

You comments explain why the image is unoriginal (and so should be rejected), not why it violates copyright. You cannot copyright an idea (the idea of a cat in a pumpkin). This is a misunderstanding of copyright. For it to violate copyright, it would have to be an image of the "same" cat in pumpkin. (Check out the "scope" section of the Wiki article on copyright: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright#Scope)

And thank goodness it doesn't violate copyright... I don't know if I'd want to live in a country where it was illegal to draw a cat in a pumpkin because someone else had already done it.

But it doesn't matter, the image is unoriginal, and so, by woot's standards, should be rejected, copyright violation or no.

kylemittskus wrote:
While I can't say for certain since I don't have access to the copyright records of the world, it makes more than logical sense that a company like Hallmark has copyrighted the image of a black cat in a pumpkin. I say this because I know there are, like I said above, stickers, cards, shirts, etc. And, if you scroll above this a few posts, there are links to two pictures that are disgustingly similar to this (three more in the rejected shirt thread.) Obviously, a tiger isn't copyrighted, nor is a pumpkin. However, a cat (let's call a spade a spade here) in a pumpkin is 99% surely a copyrighted image.

I praised the one that did something I haven't seen from him before. Consider it a protest vote - frankly, Drakxxx's four entries have, among them, barely over one good entry's worth of quality.

The tshirt is a medium that VERY much rewards complex art, because it is a medium that is ALWAYS seen.

Erm, try again, this time with some making sense.

It also rewards simple art, and I don't think anyone can viably reject that. But this is not about simple versus complex. It is about decent versus terrible. That you cannot wrap your head around the inherent wearability of actual artistic pieces is not something we should suffer for. Because no one here believes simple doesn't belong on shirts. Just not this blitheringly simple and horribly done.

You've managed to say nothing whatsoever here, in a great number of words at that.

And even despite my biases against this genre of work, you can see COPIOUS critique of the quality of their execution (anatomy, lighting, printability, soul), conceptualization, thematic relevance, overall respect, that has NOTHING to do with their "style". On every piece they put out.

Baloney. You rail against anime-style at every chance you get. And the mention of "cultural invasion," which you've noticeably avoided my calling you on, makes the context of your Cabbage Patch Elvis all too clear.

Except that, as I pointed out back when the ban was put in place, there's actually only been about two video game shirts that have won in open and non-video-game themed derbies in the last year.

The idea that video game shirts print frequently just isn't true.

Despite how blatantly unoriginal and everything it is, I was more okay with the original submission if only because thats pretty much the only thing seki knows how to draw.

However resubing it with just a different color is horrible.

I agree. This doesn't remotely make me think anything about Halloween when I see it.

Also, what's the deal with the crosshatchings, or halftones, or whatever they are, coming down over the blade of the scythe? I can't understand what that's for. If that crosshatching is part of the background, it's poor execution because they partially overlap and obscure the scythe. If it's shadowing of the scythe, it's not in line with the scythe.

Either way, it looks weird that it's partially on top of the scythe, and then next to the scythe. You need to fix that.

*yawn*

And, I mean, don't get me wrong - I *like* Drakxxx's style. I think his best shirts have generally not printed, which is a bummer, but he's done some great stuff. But this derby has not been his strongest, he's spread himself thinly, and the constant praise of his originality is, frankly, a joke - he's one of the most consistently styled designers in the derbies. That's not a criticism.

But to see the same people who slag other designers for being repetitive praise Drakxxx is unfortunate.
