Geologically? Are the penguins rocks now?

Sure geographically it doesn't make sense, unless you come up with your own story for what is happening. One reason could be these poor flightless penguins have traveled all the way across the world to the North Pole in order get a chance to fly. Either that, or my favorite explanation, is that a polar bear entrepreneur decided to relocate to Antarctica to take advantage of the better business opportunities available. Not taking the shirt literally, but instead coming up with your own story of why he is there actually makes it even more hilarious.

PLUS - who says that there are ANY Yetis out there! *g*

I really like the shirt - both ways - and when I talked about the YetiSports game, it was only cause i was worried, that the first version could get rejected. Which happend then!
Maybe the game was way more popular in Germany then in the rest of the world!? ^^

Also, it'd be neat if there was a kid inside the box in aviator goggles.

Thanks for the suggestions... I was thinking about making some variations.

This particular box was just an attempt at simplifying it as much as possible... just to see if anyone liked the general concept first.

Ugh

If they're going to reject Ramy's lung shirt based on the fact that it was lungs, this needs to be rejected, based on the fact it's a jet pack.

Finley4 wrote:It would have been funny 20 years ago. Heck it was mildly funny in the endless amount of parodies just like this one that have been done already in movies, cartoons, etc. I'm pretty sure woot had a side deal with a shirt where the kid is falling off the bike. Sorry, not very original, not very funny. "Fail" is doing all the work here.

"Fail" is not doing all the work for this design. I can see where it would definitely help bring in votes, due to the popularity of all the "Fail" pics that are floating out there.
But as someone who watched ET when I was younger, I can also see how the design would appeal to those you loved ET as a child. It's spoofy and cute. I'm not a fan of the whole "Fail" thing, that isn't what makes this shirt design cute for me.
Don't generalize. This design deserves more credit than that. Running into things has been funnier long before the whole "Fail" fad.

Re: One Flight Per Customer RESUB

I think it's funny that people are arguing where yetis and polar bears live, but are blithely accepting penguins with goggles, scarves and helmets.

Part of the charm of this is the nonsense factor. As far as the rejection, I can see the logic. If so many people were reminded of the game, then it's probably enough of a game reference.

Polar bear's good. Panda would have been even more incongruous.

For the convenience of the Woot administrators, I have identified several other video game references:
* Penguins with jetpacks is clearly a reference to the Club Penguin game by Disney.
* ET has been in several self-titled video games, such as "ET" on both Atari and Playstation. ET crashing is clearly a reference to the Atari version of ET being so bad it crashed the entire video game industry for a while. (Look it up.)
* A jetpack is clearly a reference to the game "Jetpack" released in 1993 by Software Creations, or to the game "Jetpac" released in 1983 by Ultimate Play The Game.
* Heli-packs have been featured in the Ratchet and Clank video game series. Clearly, that can't be allowed.
* An origami crane is obviously a reference to the game "Minagara Oresu DS Origami" by TDK on Nintendo DS.
* Flying whale and birdS? Clearly a reference to "Die Fail Whale", at diefailwhale.com, which features both birds and whales.
* Rodent strapped on a firecracker? Hasn't anyone played "Rocket Weasel Game", playable at flasharcade.com? It features a very similar rodent strapped to a very similar firecracker rocket.
* Birds flying? A lone tree on the left? Clearly a reference to "Duck Hunt", isn't it?
* Blue birds singing on a electric wire? Obviously referencing the classic "Singing Bird Game" on funflashgames.com.
* A floating land mass? Does this look remarkably like the floating continent from Final Fantasy VI (FF3 in the states) to anyone else?
* A boy floating with red balloons? Hasn't anyone played the NES classic, "Balloon Fight", which has boys floating holding red balloons?

Therefore, in the interest of fairness, Woot must reject nearly ALL of the top contendors for this derby. They are all clearly video game references.

Your welcome.

GMV again. I'd never heard of 'YetiSports' when I voted for the previous version yesterday. The person I plan to gift this to, however, loves penguins *and* polar bears, so I'm sure she'll enjoy the resub even more than the original.

Wish it was on a diff color. I'm thinking a burgandy and black design would look sweet.

As it is though - nice design and very imaginative. I just can't pull of these colors...

I actually thought olive was a terrible color until I got an olive shirt in a set of randoms that I would actually wear. Now that I've seen it on me though I know it works. It might be because I have a really pale complexion though. :/ I can't speak to anyone else, but if you're pale of skin and red of hair, this shirt will probably look fantastic on you.

This shirt probably draws attention because of the "FAIL" and then when you open it, it looks like one of those demotivational posters. And it would be great for that.

I think it's getting the votes, though, because people love ET. If the ET reference was removed and it was something else crashing into the moon, like a parachuter or an RC airplane, it wouldn't be getting the same number of votes.

So it's probably not just the design, it's the reference as well.

Funny thing is that the ET/bicycle/moon thing was a parody of the witch in the Wizard of Oz. So we've got a parody of a parody of a parody.

StripedTiger wrote:How come that pumpkin carving human design's text bubbles were considered incidental text, but not this?

The pumpkin carving design was equally funny/good without the text bubbles, but in this design the only way it works is with the text (without it, it's just a drawing of the balloon). That's what "incidental" means.

I believe you are referring to the artist's previous derby winner "Upon Closer Inspection". http://shirt.woot.com/Friends.aspx?k=9205

Granted, the concept is somewhat similar, and the penguins are in the same style. However, woot voters have proven time and again that they love to retread familiar territory, so I expect to see this one hit the hotness with a quickness today.

It has a vote from me, solely because it would make a good gift for a younger sister with an abiding love for all things penguin.

Woot may as well have entitled this derby "EO Does His XMas Shopping Early" ...
