mikenytola wrote:Read the sentence in which the fail statement was made. It was not associated with the rest. So you have failed already.

How is saying other people have similar styles stretching something to fit a personal vendetta? Comprehend that a little bit more and it's more than obvious it has nothing to do with a personal vendetta. Or are you the only one who has your opinion? If not, don't be so conceited, not everything is about you. That's like me saying you bash X designer and I think you are targeting that towards me. Uh, no.

Every designer has similar styles, some more than others, but if it aint broke for them, why are they going to fix it? Should Jackson Pollock have painted something other than what he did? (not comparing the artists here). It's a style that you personally do not like, but if many do, and keep voting for it, then why in the world would Ramyb change it? Purely logically speaking here. Again, if it aint broke don't fix it. He didn't just submit one design in this derby, so he did one with something that wasn't' broke and tried another style in another. Nothing wrong with that.

And for me to point out the similarities would be pointless because you would just disagree and stretch things to prove your point as you always do. It's obvious you have a very strong bias against two specific designers, I would respect your opinion more if you had consistency across the board instead of such a narrow target. THAT is your personal vendetta.

Actually the fail statement was associated with the rest because you are defending ramy. If you aren't defending ramy that means you actually care about the other artists who aren't being criticized for overusing a particular style, and you would be putting together a set of images in support of that. But you don't actually care because you are here trying to defend ramy. The only other option is that you are just trying to attack me and you don't care about ramy or any other artists and that's just sad.

Style is a way of drawing, painting, etc. Pointilism is a style. Impressionism is a style. Sketching is a style. What is not a style is the elements in the design and how they are placed on the canvas, shirt, etc. I don't know of a style called shiny swirlies sweeping up the side of the canvas.

This is not just style. This uses ramy's style and so does his "Here comes Santa Claus" design. The way they are executed and placed is very different but they are both recognizably "ramy."

What we have here is the repeat not only of style but of the execution and placement (being swirls sweeping up the side of the shirt) with a few elements mixed up be it the snowflakes or the bird or the fish or the dragons, etc. Had you read my post you'd realize that Drakxxx uses a sketching style, but he rarely draws the same things in the same way and places them on the same part of the shirt.

Again, if I'm wrong, prove it. You can pretend that it's a wasted exercise because you think I'm as close minded as you are but what of everyone else? There are a lot of people who read the threads. Show them. I've put out the shirts that I believe are too similar. The important part is that they are out there for everyone to judge as they see fit. Funny, that you are resistant to doing the same thing.

Which would mean they are voting for an adorable snow-covered cat. And that just proves why voting should not be the only thing that counts here, whether this prints or not.

As it is, is voting *really* the only thing that counts? I've wondered that before. I'm not sure the vote counts are so transparent as that.

The comments may be a different story. I think the two sides are just getting really sick of each other. Woot used to be so different; with unexpected entries and uniqueness but this was bound to happen, to get celebrities with huge followings pushing everyone else no matter the quality of work out of their way. Not complaining just stating.

I agree with you that I can see where the two sides have gotten sick of one another, and that it is also sad that WOOT has allowed itself to be changed because things sell. Yet, I do wish people went about it by taking the frustrations out to WOOT themselves, not on one another. Companies DO CHANGE when the mass majority of their customers voice concerns and irritations.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I had the design just about finished on Thursday, but couldn't get back to it till today. When I checked Woot today, my jaw dropped at how many hippo shirts were submitted. Regardless, I just couldn't scrap the idea with so much time already invested.

Unfortunately voting is the only thing that counts. Sometimes some clever and original shirts sneak by the voters and make it to the top but it's usually the same old schlock.

Re: inspired by sleigh ride

while obviously i cannot vote for it, i think it goes beyond jabbing at the artist. i think it also shows that woot could've easily rejected this by now, but yet here it is. how much longer will it (and a few others that are obvious rejections) stick around and stay in the fog before its properly axed? tomorrow? monday? who knows, maybe they'll keep it up without ever giving a reason.

i'd continue, but this is my biggest pet peeve and i could go on forever, but alas i know it won't matter to anyone at woot.

I don't really understand what this shirt is going for.
The cat in it is quite obviously dead - really dead, since it's body temp is so low. (no other way the snow would just pile up like that)
Am I supposed to find the gruesome image funny? Does the mouse feel smug?
Is it aiming for irony?

Can someone explain this?

Agree with Wednesday, I'm not sure if he'll let me buy it though. He has this thing with wearing the same shirts as his gf. (Maybe i'll just have to sneak it past him because the more I look at this design the more it grows on me and is superb)

Again you fail. I am not defending Ramyb here at all. I think this design is off theme and should be rejected. Please read before commenting on something that you made up. When I have some time perhaps I will pull some examples together. I'm not on here nearly as much as you are (in the forums) as I got tired of all the negativity that was coming from haters week after week. And if you really want to use Drakxxx as the example, you are again stretching something to fit your argument. Drakxxx has a very similar style, yes it's uniquely his own and that's what I love about his designs. But there are many elements that he uses over again. Maybe not nearly as much as Ramby, which I agree with you that he uses similar styles quite a bit. All I'm saying is that you are bias and have an agenda. Nowhere does that say I'm defending Ramyb. Comprehension. Don't just argue for the sake or arguing. Stick to the asking for examples. That'll I'll pull together when I have more time to spend scrubbing the derby's and designers. Unless you know of soemplace where it's easier to do this where they have each artist and their designs? I'd actually really like to see something that in general, debate aside.

You are trying to defend ramy from my "undue" bias and agenda. Pure and simple. I never said you were defending his designs. You might want to comprehend your own statements first.

Head over to SDS they have everything that's ever been submitted by anyone for every derby. I really do advise this. I know you will head over there hoping to somehow prove my bias, but I am much more confident that you will finally realize why people are tired of ramy and his "art." I advise everyone does this as well.

The difference between you and I is that I want people to be more informed and I want to help them get that information so that they can decide for themselves because I am confident the only reason you are against me is because you aren't informed and you so far have refused to be.
