Drak's BIRTHDAY, so yeehaa for special birthday designs!

I don't see how anyone could not support such a design, phenomenal job with both the coloring and lining, overall an amazing piece. The world needs more Cthulhu... or is it that Cthulhu needs more of the world?

From reading comments it seems like a few of us share your birthday, hope yours is good!

I need this shirt. I have buried myself in the cthulhu mythos this past year and a half. I NEED IT!!!

Doe not call up Any that you cannot put downe; by the which I mean, Any that can in turn call up somewhat against you, whereby your powerfullest Devices may not be of use. Ask of the Lesser, lest the Greater shall not wish to Answer, and shall commande more than you.

I bow to your magnificence. You two truly make a solid design team. Solid concept and damn good execution. This may be your best yet. GMV and money.

I really like how you made the boat look one of those die cut plywood models.

I'm afraid you might get rejected, because Jurassic Park is by no means classic literature.

A note on 3D:

The 3D effect works best when you have multiple objects at multiple depths. If something is floating out in space and you have no point of reference you'll have no idea how close or far it is. I would suggest adding some pterodactyls off in the distance and spreading the boat between several depths.

I was expecting an epic battle between Moby Dick and Cthulhu when I saw the thumbnail, but this design looks good too. You guys are a dynamic duo..

As an opposing point of view to others on this thread, I own woot shirts that are basically one big blob of ink, and I have no problem with wearing them. It just feels like a normal tshirt to me. Its not like the ink is super heavily printed on the shirt. And even if you can feel the ink through the shirt, its not like you'll be concentrating on "oh this big blob on my shirt is sooo uncomfortable" the whole day.

Typically I'm too lazy to leave comments. However, I like this shirt enough to actually leave a comment :D I love the way the characters interact, particularly the Cheshire Cat and Toto.

Hopefully it will print! GMV!

i noticed that there weren't many line/brush art in this derby; thought i would add one.

also, Quatermain has hunted just about everything else, and i thought he should have a shot at the Kraken.

Nice Job! Gotta agree with some of the earlier commenters on your use of colors. Being limited in the number of colors that can go on a shirt can sometimes work against the artist, but it didn't look like you had any trouble pulling this off. Thumbs up.

I'm glad you think so, picking colors for this and thinking of characters that would fit in the selected color constraints was actually a major task (hence the late Sunday submission). But I'm glad it seems like it was effortless, that means I did something right, yeah me!

Re: Hey Diddle Diddle in the Book of Life

I think it's pretty awesome how you managed to utilize ancient Egyptian art in a relevant manner (i.e. Bast, Hathor, and Anubis being representations of the cat, cow, and dog) vs just making a scene in Egyptian style and calling it a day.

And you can't get much more classic than the Book of the Dead. Well unless someone manages to tie something in with the Epic of Gilgamesh.

Re: Lord of the Flies/Lord of the Rings

Sometimes people learning the ropes of the derby make a few mistakes in submitting but I applaud your try...
the folks who commented previously were trying to help you, it's important to have your thumbnail (the square picture) be the first thing people see and your full comp be the picture of your design on the tshirt, so you did mix those up...and the rejectioner rejects for that, also pay as close attention as you can to the derby rules, this time they wanted books written before 1900(to play it safe, before 1900) otherwise, the author or authors family is still receiving money and we are not allowed to profit from their work.(Copywrite law)

I am glad you submitted and I hope you have good luck with your next try, if someone comments early on that you missed one of the rules you can pull your design by clicking the red x within 24 hours of submitting and resubmit a "fixed" version...I think your idea was great, but the copywrite issues ...

...also you need to stay with 6 or fewer colors, that rule never
changes...good luck next time!

Thanks Jestik! I think I may. They've been having some good derby themes lately. Although, I wasn't too sure how many people wanted a tee with ShantyShawn in a Speedo, for "things that start with S.

Re: Who Needs Ruby Slippers?...

I love this shirt. It's a great use of the derby theme, and I think could be worn around non-wooters without having to constantly explain it, and that's a big plus.

Great job!

You know, the only issue I have is... What do I tell people when Im wearing the shirt? Why am I wearing a Seussian character with a skull on a plate? Outside of the woot theme, it has no real context and kind of a "huh?" factor.

With that said...Im still voting for it ;) I just cant see myself wearing it.

Actually, this is one of only a couple entries in this derby that is self-explanatory. Most of the entries would not make any sense if you didn't know the derby theme, but Dr. Suess and Hamlet are well known enough, that I think people would actually get the pun of the titles.

Great design! A big plus is that I could actually wear this around people without having to explain:
"see there's this website, and they have t-shirt design contest . . . "
Can't say that for most entries this week!

Re: Through the Looking Glass into Dante's Inferno

I have actually been waiting for this to go up. Think I would have to agree with drakxxx though too. I really like the way that Alice and Lucifer turned out. It is just a little strange to have them outlined and not the mirror as well.

I am fairly a newb too at these designs too though, so I give you kudos on the halftones. I have always had trouble with them. Still nice job, especially if it's your first. Doing it is sometimes the best way to learn.
