Calm down, conquest is one of the interpretations. Pestilence doesn't have to mean 'sores and boils' it could mean a proliferation of evil, such as conquest. You have a brain, use it instead of talking out of turn. Also, no need to be mean about it, jeez.

Anyways, I love it all. The only thing I would want would be famine to be holding some scales in his tiny tail. But that's it. GMV.

Oh yeah, I like thie one alot. I keep staring at this shirt. The scene just seems like it's about to start moving. The person and the wolf creature seems like they're gonna fight any second now.

The colors are badass, but too much pink / purple for a guy like myself to be wearing. Thumbs Up :D

Drawing otterific shirts 99 out of 100 times shouldn't earn a pass from the critics for the 1 failure.

Could you please give an example? I haven't seen such a thing (other than maybe tgentry's entry into Kawaii but I saw that one as parody more than anything)

Pestilence does not mean the same thing as conquest, and the "proliferation of evil" is a much harder concept to convey than "disease". If the argument is that Conquest was chosen because it's easier to convey, arguing for a harder interpretation certainly doesn't make the case.

Good lord, it's not trolling. Woot has never demanded that only exact copies merit rejection. Less similar shirts have been rejected in the past. For that matter, more similar ones have also gotten the green light, so you never can tell.

Regardless, they share same title, more or less, and both feature giant, destructive pandas. You'd have to be blind not to see the similarities. That doesn't necessarily mean that this should be rejected but freiz isn't a troll either. The rejectionator rule is, and has always been, "similar shirts exist", not identical.

@Kraketaer and @Darquis:

While doing my research I noticed that the horseman's arrows were said to bring plague, so it still symbolizes "pestilence" by holding an arrow. I personally thought it would look better than drawing a diseased seahorse, and separate it from "famine" better. The crown is for conquest, but as an afterthought I added the arrow for pestilence so it could be either. I called it "conquest" in my description because I thought it would be easier to understand.

So, because No1 uses panda's in every design, they will all be similar to this threadless shirt? And any design featuring exaggerated lips (Kenney9226) will run afoul of a similarity to the Rolling Stones logo? Oh come on. You're looking to cause trouble, and it's really not necessary.

I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the seven living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come and see." I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on Conquest.

You're putting words in my mouth (er, keyboard?).

You called freiz a troll. I posited that he was simply noting similarities that do exist, due to content and theme. I never made the leap that every panda shirt would also be too similar. I'm not sure where you got that.

Panda shirts are one thing. Giant destructopandas are far more specific, and it's not trolling for freiz to note that.

And no, I'm not looking to cause trouble. I never am. I saw fit to defend freiz. I haven't said anything incendiary.

....and Reed Richards is Marvel. If one can think that he looks like Superman, one can easily think that Galactus looks like someone else.

Also, DC and Marvel crossed over once upon a when, so such a "team up" could have happened.

I just read about Best Buy going after a Catholic priest for copyright infringement. Seems the good Padre was driving around in a black VW New Beetle with a logo reading "God Squad." Said logo was quite similar in color and shape to BB's own Geek Squad logo.

The point of my little story is that, despite the fact that I like this shirt very much, it is more than a little similar to Mozilla's Firefox logo. I wonder if it sufficiently different enough to withstand scrutiny.

Re: The four Horsemen

The Four Horseman of The Apocalypse is an established piece of art, so I hesitate when I see it's use here. It needs to be a clear parody for it to work.

I my mind, this design's two derby competitors are both fails. One is just a straight up reinterpretation and the other (velociraptors)is too garish to wear. This design is almost there...

If I were the artist, I would color the horses according to tradition and I would give each Tubby the traditional weapon/implement for their respective role. IE, if Po was the Horseman of War, his wooden horse would be red and he would wield a two-handed great-sword.

Note: is Po male or female or both?

Actually, to be fair, I had seen that you posted earlier, and confused you with llklocke, who also tried to use the Threadless shirt as a comparison. Apologies to you.

The constant searching of other online shirt sites to see if something might be a ripoff of another artist's work loses most of its usefulness when the similarities are as tenuous as they are between No1's design and the one on Threadless. Too many people seem to have taken this effort on as a cause and hobby, and it makes the threads a less pleasant place to be.

The fact that both designs feature panda's that are disproportionally larger than their surroundings, and that the artists each chose to title them based on a play on words is the limit of similarity. One is drawn somewhat realistically, and is engaged in combat with infantry. The other is striding over the skyline, with no weapons in sight, and is or a far greater proportion to the city than the Threadless shirt. The style is far from realistic in this design as well.

To try to suggest that the two are similar enough to constitute infringement would appear to be more than just a passing observation. It sure seemed to have been posted with the intent to create a response, either by the rejectificator or by other forum participants. Unless someone really felts that another artist's rights were being infringed upon, what's the point?

Again, the commentary above is not intended for you, but mostly to those who try a little too hard to disqualify others' work, or imply that they are guilty of unoriginal thinking or at least execution.

No1 is about as unique as they come. Nobody would accuse him of tracing or using a photo or someone else's vector art as the basis of his design. Those are the kind of violations that should be made public and potentially result in rejection. Not for choosing the same breed of animal and pun.
