snot, didn't know that word, learned something today.Is it slang?

Snot isn't slang. Originated from Middle English in the 15th century. And we've been using it liberally ever since.

Thanks.In french too it's an old word too, but it has taken a pejorative sense trough the ages.

kylemittskus wrote:So the only thing different is the fire vs. the bats? It's not that I don't like it, but it seems lazy to submit this with such a minor change substance-wise. Plus your other, cereal shirt that is a resub that has nothing to do with Halloween.

The important thing is that it is being submitted in a relevant derby. I loved this when it first showed up, and I'm very glad you re-submitted it! I will definitely get this shirt if it wins! You've got a vote from me! Don't be a prariedog Kyle

Johndis5 wrote:I've been around woot long enough to know how it works. I'm just not artistically able to submit very often. Rejections are never across the board and fair. I get that. I can now see first hand what it feels like to be slighted. Even if I do have an idea that I can actually execute, I'm a lot less likely to put forth the effort, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Rule of thumb: If it looks like copyrighted / trademarked / registered property, expect rejection unless there is parody, which again is subjective, so could still lead to rejction for one but not for another. No easy answer, other than to say the best thing you can do is create new, original art that doesn't rely on commonly known items / people / comics / etc.

Additionally, I have no idea how the gameboy one came to print.

Re: Candycorn Monster

@effiew - My monsters aren't a direct reference to anything I know of, but I feel like they're just an amalgam of my childhood...Jim Henson, Dr. Seuss, Studio Ghibli, Brian Froud, sometimes a hint of The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Hobbit. So maybe they look familiar because they borrow a bit from lots of different references. Anyway, that's how I think of them Glad you like 'em!

@Bassanimation - Funnily enough i don't feel like this is the first monster shirt where someone has wanted one to be named George...I guess George is just a really fitting monster title, haha.

@mjc613 - Muggles, hahahaha, otterific...

@Spiritgreen - Yeah, its a sad life. Sometimes monster forgets he's not a candycorn and he tries to eats hisself

@normadelc - That's...open to interpretation...<_< >_>

and lastly...

Thanks everybody whose supported this little dude!! I'm so excited to see how fast it has shot up and I really appreciate all of your votes and comments immensely!!

Re: Now you see me! Now you don't!

Oy! The shirt comp gives me a headache. And when I first saw the thumbnail, I thought I was looking at a walrus behind those stripes.
I'd have to agree that a more traditional ghost pose would probably have been more effective. But then, it'd still give me a headache, so that's a problem.

I'm definitely doing this in the spirit of the Halloween derby, been waiting for it for ages. (Btw, Joel gave me the go ahead to put the spooky cereal design in this derby himself - I checked yesterday).

ignore Kyle. this is great! in this derby especially!

I love this compilation shirt. This color scheme is better than the greenish one you had too.
I've been following all your posts in the pre-derby as well as the WIP threads and have been anxiously awaiting this one.
Needless to say, you GMV.

When was this show on? It may be a little before some of our times - that may be why it isn't getting the votes... I really think its well done, but I just don't relate to the show it's portraying - I've never seen it. Sorry.

Re: The Tag Along

I like it. I don't have the slightest problem with it using the same technique as impostor (and everything else that does that layout) Impostor felt a little more of a "girls shirt" where as this shirt is a little more wearable for a guy, imo.

It was on throughout all of the 80's. How could you have missed it?
Or even if you've never seen the show, midgerock did a pretty good job of representing Tom Selleck here.

I like the idea of GITD.

Yea, it's been done, but I think it really fits here and doesn't subtract from the design. It give's a reason for the sad face, and well...it's the best action for :O

sexylittlerobot wrote:I noticed you removed your trace of a Touhou cover yesterday. It would be prudent of you to read up on the rules - I checked on shirt.what and I can identify the game character you either traced or imposed directly onto a shirt. Most of the derbies now have a no video game rule and I'm also fairly certain tracing/copying characters also violates the rules. It's not that I do not like your ideas, but you will be lambasted to next Tuesday if other posters on here realize where your images originate.

tgentry wrote:I think it might have worked better if the ghost was flipped vertically. In the current position it kind of looks like a spill on the floor or something. To be honest I'm not really seeing a ghost.

I suspect the placement was to foreshorten and make it seem the ghost was coming forward toward the viewer. I think - I'm putting words in someone's mouth, I know, but that would make a bit of sense, even if it doesn't really help the comp.

I've never heard of either one, but checked them out. All very simple drawing styles. I can see how one would remind you of the other. Honestly, I just sat down with my tablet and started doodling.
