Is anyone else having issues with woot being super slow today? Also, I've been trying to change my avatar all day (trying to link it to twitter or gravatar) but all that happens is a load screen for like 5 minutes then I get an error.

Anyone else have that problem? Thanks!

Re: Holy Cow!

"Possibly crosses religious sensitivities?" REALLY?! It's a freakin' cow that's a) from the region & b) not a deity or other, actual, religious figure.

The cow is seen as sacred in Indian because of Puja (a mix of animal products like milk & dung for religious practices) & the cow is kept alive for it. That's it.

If you're gonna reject something because of "religious sensitivities" Woot, atleast know something about the religion first.

Re: Break Free

I am bothered by the anatomy of the horse. The front legs look particularly odd and uneven. I also feel the pole is a bit too prominent. From afar this looks like a horse that's been stabbed with some kind of large implement.

Lastly, I feel this is barely on topic. Carousels are French in origin. Without the silhouette in the background there would be nothing Indian about this image.

Love the design but I think it's too wide for off-center placement.

I really like the idea and colors. You should make it actually look like henna and resub.

Re: Good Luck Rat

Based on the rats of Karni Mata, finding one of a very few number of albino rats among the normal black rats is considered good luck. In addition, you have to go barefoot into the temple, so having a rat run across your foot is also considered good luck.

YAAAAY!!! A Karni Mata design! So happyyyyy ;_;. I love the story of the Karni Mata Temple and the white rat. Awesome. I would buy 3 of these. Great stuff, Skek! I'll also FB it so my fellow rodent people can vote :D.

Very beautiful! I like the off-center placement, though I agree that I would probably like it more if it were a little less wide.

Oh my, thanks bass! I can't tell you how hard this was to do since I've never tried to do rat silhouettes.

Re: Good Luck Rat

When I first clicked on this, I thought the albino rat was Dangerous Beans from The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett.

I love that rat.

Re: Great BanyanGreat Banyan

I really like this a lot, but it's so dark that whatever is meant to be seen at the base of the OH GOD, THEY'RE WATCHING ME is totally lost. I zoomed it 400 times and still can't tell what's there. Lighter shirt or something?

If this were on a black shirt, I'd buy in a heartbeat. I think the bright colors are lost on the cranberry shirt.

This is gorgeous! I like how you kept the rich earthy tones of traditional henna. The mandala design is intricate and beautiful and totally speaks for itself the way you've centered it on the shirt. +1!

blammoed wrote:Thanks for the feedback so far.

I was expecting this design to be pretty neutral. It's just meant to be a play on the saying "Holy cow!" + an illustration of a cutsie indian cow. Not meant to offend anyone or poke fun at anyone's religion.

Sadly, most of us have no clue what might be objectionable to the global audience.
I think 90% of my friends/coworkers who are Indian would be OK with this. But I don't know them well enough to say that 10% would freak if I wore it.
That said, it's up to me to be responsible, too, and not offend those I interact with.
I get the rejection of this , and the other. I wish we had a better handle on things not to have to worry about it, because I gua-ron-tee neither was intended to offend.
