Heh. Didn't see that rejection coming. This should also serve as an example of another simple fact about Ramy: he openly ignores rules. Don't try to tell me he accidentally used 7 colors. He's a veteran of the derbies and he should know better. Bravo Tjost for the catch. As far as Adder goes, when I first started reading the derby threads, I took Adder's arguments as troll ramblings. As I returned week after week, and seeing exactly what he had been ranting about, it began to make more sense. He may say it with salt, but he's right every time, not to mention summarily deconstructing every defense of Ramy offered by a) newbies who don't yet get it or b) sycophants.

Ha! Women voting! Classic.
Re: tentacular trap
I really like this design but be careful in the future not to make details too small. It appears you have lots of lines (like the outlines around the fish) that are below 1pt. While that's fine in nice paper printing, shirts just can't hold or print that unless using an incredibly high mesh with really high newton tension and really thin thread width. That's something that would have gotten this rejected if caught. Also the halftone work appears to be really fine on the jellyfish, almost like you made it at one size then shrunk them down afterwards which artificially makes them smaller then woot print standards (this would have been highly problamatic on women and kids prints that are a smaller design). Final note the halftones that make up the rings appear to be non uniform in shape (they get kinda wonky), my guess is that you made them in photoshop then took them into Illustrator or some other vector program and did an auto trace at some point? That's usually the cause for the tone distortion. If that's the case careful on that too since woot doesn't like artists doing that, it causes distortions when printing. Again great job on the art though. I don't want you to think that I'm hammering you, I just want you to be careful in the future so that an unfortunate rejection doesn't befall you Cheers +1

Im pretty much the tone-deaf guy who makes everybody listen to his crappy music. Hey, man! I sent you a request. A lot of my stuff is juvenile as well. I work as an artist for a yearbook publishing company and I get a lot of the elementary schools to work with. They like me.

nope...I think the "black" is actually the navy background
Re: TIME IS UP
Wow, I overlooked this one until now. Nicely done. I think it's getting overlooked because the palette is so dark. Maybe if it had another color for the eyes, to bring them out and also catch the viewer's eye? Dunno. Great drawing; I just think the palette is too subtle. /edit to add - Or, perhaps the shirt should have been darker, probably black since navy likely wouldn't work.

Ooops. Now you lost me. Being a teacher, poor language or word choice hits me where I live. But then defending it when it's pointed out gets my goat. Straight from Mirriam-Webster: "equivalent in value, significance, or effect" Synonymns would be 'in effect' or 'virtually'. It refers to equality within a particular comparison. Ther is no implication that notihing else could be higher. You very definitely wanted 'paramount' (def: supreme). Shame on you for being so cavalier, so you can march on with your rhetoric. I usually think better of you.

I'd say more vinegar, or acid, than salt. But you're right, that doesn't preclude the fact that he's usually right, and comments because he CARES**. Kyle, too, get's hammered sometimes for trolling. thanks a lot, hat's great, your post is very usefull for me as i have less experience than you.And you 're all right about my working process (thumbs up).I don't know very well how to do halftones in illustrator so you're right i 'mm preparing all the layers in photoshop and sometimes there are distorsions.I will be carefull about all you mentioned in my next submissions.Iam in the process of simplifying things a lot so...

paigeg wrote:Just for grins, if you're still hanging out and see this - how did you do that outline? I hand't thought of something like that, but it looks great.
It was actually easy- you copy the shape you want to knock out and paste it behind the art but in front of the background. Color all of it the same fill and stroke (something NOT in the design itself. I tend to use a stroke thickness that is really big to get a good block on the background (10-20 pts). Then, select all and flatten transparency on the layers (do this last, because it'll vectorize everything in the design down to shapes). This should convert the shape into one big blob. Apply a merge filter, and that should get rid of a lot of extra lines. Then, select the color of the blob (should now be an outline around your shape), and delete it. Done!
Actually, they all wore red in the comic books (which is what it's all based on), so it's a perfectly valid Leonardo.

You are 100% correct. It's mostly because I don't really know how to do shadows, so I fake it. I'm working on it.
