Someone was the first to create zombies, vampires, and mummies as well. If you want to get down to brass tacks, Lovecraft made mention that multiple entities exist in the form of what we know as Cthulhu. An entire race of them in fact. Cthulhu is the name of the one that happens to be on Earth.
Taking that into consideration, this design becomes a depiction of a certain generalized monster. Dracula looks a particular way, but someone could illustrate him and just say it's a vampire.
