Narfcake wrote:Where are the checks and balances, then? Joel and Barbara were around when the incident happened, and as a competing artist, Travis saw all the action too.

Checks and balances have to be kept internal, because they're evidenciary in nature, and exposing them to the outside allows for potential legal problems.

I worked for a business on a contract two years ago when the really applied the incline plane wrapped in a helix fashion around a single axis to the pooch (HOWS THAT FOR GETTING AROUND THE FILTERS!). I can't go into details but WE knew what happened, our clients knew what the result was if not the source, and EVERYONE knew that the situation was bad. But we weren't even allowed to mention that an issue existed, dispite the fact that the issue was there, because if we said it the wrong way we became fully financially liable for something that really wasn't our fault. And even if they were just nucience suits, even a few flakes can start an avalanche.

So I assume that the Mods are listening, and that Joel and Barbara and Travis are seeing this, telling the people who matter just how deep they've stepped in it, and working behind the screen where it's legally safe to talk about this stuff to END THE SALE AND ISSUE AN APOLOGY!

j5 wrote:"Imposter" continued to sell long after the "incidents".

I think "Imposter" stayed up after she disappeared possibly because of legal reasons we don't know about. Sure, she was caught red-handed stealing one artist's design, but if they couldn't find evidence of theft on the "Imposter" shirt, then it's possible they couldn't just yank it. Just a guess though.

Obviously, I'm not sure the ins and outs of what might have gone on behind the scenes after the "Nomination" debacle, but it's reasonable to guess that Woot took measures to make sure that she-who-must-not-be-named would not get a fresh print here. And by fresh, I mean a new design that she supposedly designed herself.

That said, it is a bit of a disappointment to see Woot giving her a reprint in any way, shape, or form. There have been plenty of music themed shirts over the years, so why give a known theft--one who was very publicly exposed--any chance to earn money here again?

I feel that Joel needs to weigh in personally on this one. I was about to grab a "Filthy Hippies" shirt, but then saw the "Music" print. I don't like that this situation at all, and ignoring it doesn't make it better in the least. Not trying to sharpen the pitchforks here, but I, like many here, would like answers.

Lol... I was never banned from woot, and I didn't intentionally steal another artist's design either. Thought of the idea, thought it would be cute, did a search and nothing came up, so just went with it. I had no idea it was someone's thing, otherwise there's no way I would have ever done it as a design. And yeah, not banned, just coincidentally became too focused on other things in life, and too lazy to come to forums and defend myself. It's like way too hard to defend yourself online anyway. :p

First post on this thread:
Where is Listening to Who? by Ochopika? I LOVE my shirt and would have bought a tote, hoodie, poster, whatever with that design. It is perfect for this sale. Sorry, Ochopika, that Woot left you out in the cold.

Instead, Woot decides to print one I can't bring myself yet to name.

Second post forthcoming when I can figure out how to say what needs to be said beyond.... Woot, you've made a very BAD decision here.

Wow! Congrats on the reprint. You must be incredibly gifted to have pulled that off at sixteen.

It is a shame that your temporary rise from the dead is being sullied by another disappointing zombie dragging itself up from the earth.

I hope the re-run nets you some extra scrilla, but count me among those who are disappointed of the decision to re-run work by an intellectual property thief.

I'm glad you liked that one! I can reasonably assume either a) I somehow slighted the Woot gods and they now hate me and all my shirts, or b) Woot didn't have red aprons for my bread kitty last week and "Listening to Who" is too autumn-themed for this week.

I'm going with "b" because the other option is totally CRAZY, right? *twitches*

Woot loves you. They print lots of your stuff, like the "Slow & Steady" that I recently got. I've been wanting to tell you that my very favorite thing about the design is that the rabbit has a piece of straw in his mouth.

I'm sure Kneading Kitty will land on an apron someday. We keep asking for it in the threads. Besides, they can't print all the good ones right out the gate. Gotta spread it around.

Quit twitching.

Why am I suddenly reminded of my child swearing to me that he certainly did not take & eat the candy stored on a very high shelf? The wrappers were just in his room because he happened to find the empty wrappers on the floor and put them under the bed to help clean up.

I'm a little surprised at the lack of hellfire in here in reaction to Seki's obnoxious (lolz I didn't steal on purpose I was just being kewt =^^=) return. I realize this thread has been cleaned up a bit, but that was mostly the off topic drama reveling I think. I expected the poor mods would be up all night busy trying to tame all the outrage and flaming.

Has the community lost it's passion for dipping Seki in molten lava? I can see how apathy might rule after what's been happening around here this year. You just get to a point I guess where no new low is surprising anymore. Seki's return is just the cherry on top of the The Force sundae.

Sorry, wall of text coming up:

I'll make sarcastic comments to make myself chuckle, but full on rage? I dunno. Honestly, for me it comes from a place of pure disappointment in Woot.

I think in order to really unload on someone you have to A) feel like they're going to actually hear it or care, and B) feel some sort of vested interest in the situation. My impression from Sylvia's TROLLOLOLO FOOLED YOUU!! post up there is she doesn't care. Does it bother her that so many people have accused her of stealing and her name is mud in multiple places? Doesn't seem like it to me.

Let's be honest here, I don't think she's telling the truth. I have no reason to. Having said that, here's two things:

1. By Sylvia posting here and it not being deleted, she's proven she wasn't banned, at least not permanently.

2. It was generally assumed that Woot couldn't talk about the repercussions of World Nom-ination due to legal reasons, however I think most of us came to the conclusion that it was stolen and they had to pay the original artist damages. If that was true, then they should've banned Sylvia and immediately reckoned her shirts (note: they didn't). If that was not true, some effort should've been made to address and smooth the situation and correct the spread of misinformation. Any kind of explanation at all. Why, I would think that if I were accused of stealing but then found to be innocent, I would demand it from them. Obviously, that didn't happen.

So Woot either chose to deliberately mislead it's users into thinking an offending artist was guilty and gone forever when in fact she wasn't, or they chose not to even bother banning her for stealing another artist's work, which is a huge slap in the face to the artistic community. Take your pick.

And don't get me wrong, it would be super easy to just haul off and call her names and bring about verbal damnation on her for showing back up here again after two years, but what's the point really? (Besides, it would just be deleted anyway.) I didn't swear off over the Anvil switch-over, I just figured I'd eventually buy a design I liked to try the new blank out. If it was good, then I'd continue my intense buying rate of roughly one shirt every 4.5 months (a ton, I know). That hasn't happened yet, and now I don't think it ever will. And that bums me out because I really like the artists that print here, but I'm not going to support this company the way it is now.

The fact that they're selling a Sylvia shirt is enough to turn me away, and now the apparent revelation that she was never even banned in the first place? That's just extra crap on a turdburger.

It's cool man, I'm sure she was just inspired by a sticker she bought at con and totally didn't think the original artist would mind. I mean it's not *exactly* the same, it's on a tee shirt instead of a sticker, she changed it enough!

#2 on down is what really hits me.

Even more so than the consumers are fellow artists, however. We've had another incident recently, but I still see hope there. This one ... I don't. So to reprint this, all in the name of money ... this is like a slap across the face ... using a 2x4.

When did the price change happen? It was $12 by the time I got here.

I wonder, because it's very bad planning to do a price hike and switch suppliers close together. One or the other your customer might be able to handle... It seems a business would want a minimum of six months between major changes unless things are dire. But maybe it was that long? Or maybe it was that dire?
