If the design were about 1/2 the size and bumped up into the top 1/3 of the shirt...i'd be totally sold!!

fablefire wrote:Right. It'd be nice to get a definitive answer on the bird stuff though. Part of the to-do is because popular derby entries have been rejected in the past due to similar designs already being printed. If woot's willing to embrace the "we're selling shirts here" philosophy, and print similar shirts for the sake of profit, then this shirt is awesome. I might as well give them more "profitable" designs too in the future.

I agree! I also hate when they reject good shirts because it's close to a past entry, but then again wouldn't want people to start puking really bad feathery designs just for the sake of it. I think there can be a balance... this design is very good in itself and obviously a lot of people would like to own the shirt. The best thing about this type of art is that lots of people can wear it and take it places, it gets the biggest audience... otherwise, if a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one there to hear it... does it make a sound?

I'd take this over any of the entries in the fog right now. It needs to get back up there!

Yep, the flaming bag o' poop was the angle I was going for here. Not really one of my better efforts, but I had to get this random idea out of my head. Maybe I should add the word "Welcome" to the welcome mat and resubmit, but then I'd lose that one whole vote that I've garnered!

Great design. I think it's different enough from the Farside comic. You've got a very distinct style Sokowa. I can always tell which ones are yours. :D

Re: Swallow Rescue Squad

Thanks for the votes everyone. I got the idea about 30 minutes before submissions started so the design was rushed. After 60 days are up I'll refine it and put more detail in as I think the idea is good, it's just the execution that left much to be desired.

Thanks
I can see points from both sides, but obviously I feel stronger that this is unique enough (otherwise we have issues about "how far down the rabbit hole do we go in terms of uniqueness")
Regardless, I know there are two camps forming on this design (and others as well). I don't envy Woot's position at the moment. I know it's a business first and foremost and no matter what they'll have 3 good designs when the derby is over this week, so they won't be at a loss, but I trust that they are trying to come up with some fair decision overall.

Re: CaliforniAAAAH!

Yeah this was hard because i made the Meh shirt first, then thought it might get rejected (take THAT fake Adder), so I whipped up a substitute in the form of the shark shirt. Turns out I haven't been asked to leave yet and even my dinosaur is doing better than this one. Sometimes you just can't tell which way the wind is blowing here at Woot

Re: Famine Famine Hippos

@mlovesr - Thanks. Too bad I can't roll on up into the fog and stay there.

@rglee129 - Thanks rg. I always appreciate it when great artists tell me that I'm doing *something* right.

@donsolo5 - Looks unlikely at this point, but I'll keep hoping if you do too!

@ItsBradford - I'm surprised that you recognized it as a hippo without seeing the reference. When I was working on this I looked up images of hippo skulls. My depiction is nothing like a real hippo skull; I figured this cartoony look was more appropriate given the joke and the fact that it's a plastic hippo anyway. I thought that most people would either not get it at all or understand the reference to Hungry Hungry Hippos (through the visual clues of the lever and the bright green colour). I'm glad I somehow conveyed hippo-ness in the skeleton, even if the lever wasn't clear.

@SailorButterfly - Much appreciated. We've still got a few days. Anything can happen, right?

Thanks for the comments and continued support, everyone.

Wow, looks like I will need to spend half the week of a derby researching every possible thing on the internet to make sure an idea isn't even remotely related to something out there already. This is twice for me a fog'd entry was canned.
heh, well I have a herculean butterfly and a carrot still if anyone is interested. . .

I couldn't believe that no one had thought of a red phone emergency. Escpecially after the recent release of the new batman movie. The idea came to me after waking up at 1:00 in the afternoon. 3rd shift really messes with you.

Re: This is not a test

Can someone explain to me why this design is not original? I haven't seen this on a shirt anywhere.

If you haven't seen my shirt, it is a rendition of the Emergency Broadcasting System's test that they used to play on TV.

Re: Revenge!

"This might qualify as parody if I understood what was going on."

Dunno if it will help the shirt's case...but I can try to explain. Usually Mario rides on Yoshi (the dinosaur) and makes him eat turtles. This has Yoshi riding Mario as revenge.

Hmm...after explaining it, I don't see the emergency theme anyway, though.
