I don't even bother entering here half the time because it's barely worth it anymore. If Ramy and Seki each enter one design, that's a 90% chance of having 2 fog spaces filled for the week. I could be making designs for someone else who I KNOW would pay me, rather than the take the risk of "I wonder if Ramy or Seki is entering this week?" I'm not going to spend an all-nighter on Thursday making something for woot when there's little to no chance of it even being noticed.
So, thanks. You're rewarding someone $1000 + royalties just to get your jollies by watching people flame each other on a message board. Do you know how much money the two of them have made? Last I checked it was getting close to $20,000, if not more. I hope you're proud of yourself. If you liked the shirts, that'd be one thing. Good for you if you like an artist's design and you want to support them. But you're doing this just to watch people (maybe even people like me) twitch and scream about it.
I wouldn't even feed the troll in this case, but things like this need to be said. You're depriving a LOT of other artists from money that they rightly deserve, and depriving yourself of better t-shirts you could be purchasing. Some designers won't even bother with this place anymore for the same reasons I won't. Some of us still have our pride and don't want to pander to the lowest common desu and make cute Japanese-inspired junk, or swirly-halftone-a-palooza nonsense.
I used to wonder why Ramy and Seki didn't just go into business for themselves, but then I realized- by dominating shirt.woot, they get to make a boatload of money and never have to worry about any of the overhead and production costs, while still keeping t-shirt prices low for their customers. Who needs their own t-shirt business when they control roughly 1/4 of this one at any given time?
All right, I'm gonna stop before I steal all of AdderXYU's thunder. I need to go get the taste of hate and bitterness out of my mouth. u_u
When I purchase a shirt on Woot, it gives me the right to vote in the Derby, and I can use my vote in the Derby to vote for any shirt(s) I want to vote for, for any reason I'd like to vote for them.
If I want to vote for them because I like the design, it's my right to do so. If I want to vote for them because I like the artist who designed it, it's my right to do so. Also, if I want to vote for them because I like how angry the success of said designs make people like Adder, it's my right to do that as well.
This isn't "vote rigging" nor am I doing anything wrong. I don't know Ramyb, and I'm not in collusion with him/her for financial gain. I'm simply utilizing my vote in a way I want. Something I have every right to do.
Me voting for a Ramyb shirt because of the stir he/she causes is no different than someone voting for Obama because he's black, or voting for McCain because he's white. While you don't have to agree with the sentiment, those people can use their vote to vote for whomever they want, for whatever reason they want.
I don't care if there's $1000 involved. I don't design shirts for this site, and the money being shelled out isn't my cash. If "starving artists" get shut out, I lose no sleep, because truthfully I don't care. If Ramyb's made $20K off this site, I say good for them.
I will come here every week, vote for Ramyb's design, and go on with my life. When I plunked down $10 to buy a shirt, I earned the right to do just that.
Think of it this way, maybe if people like Adder weren't pr!cks all the time, I wouldn't be inclined to intentionally piss them off.
