JRWorkshop wrote:Usually visual creative takes on historical events still need some sort of visual coherence, but you know what? you are right, this isn't about if in 1937 we had helium or hydrogen blimps, it's about how people react vote wise to the artwork.
I'm a die hard aviation history enthusiast, that's why i think what i think about your artwork. But just to make a comparison, I'm pretty sure a lot of people in the chemistry world would get annoyed by the 'Chucknorrium' shirt, which I find awesome.
At the end, it's just a matter of opinion.
Sorry to bother you and shake that hand as a sign of peace.

No, no, no! No bother at all. I really enjoyed your critique. I can how this design would bug the hell out of you as a "die hard aviation history enthusiast" No doubt.

It doesn't look rushed at all Boots, don't sweat it. Only critique I have is that the stroke around the halftones looks a little weird on the top left side. Or is that just how it's coming out with the web gfx?

I have some strokes of orange mixed in with the blue line. It looks messy now that it's shrunk down for the comp, but it's subtle and clean at full size. I can't stop looking at it now that you pointed it out. If I had noticed how it looks on the comp, I might have taken it out. It's a small detail, but one that I think adds a little to the design (at full size that is).

Is it just me, or are a vast majority of entries this week completely off theme? I mean normally there are a lot of "almost" on theme designs, but it seems 90% of the entries this week are off theme.

I love everything about this...except for the way the scene just straight up cuts off on the right side...in fact it kind of ruins it for me.

I love the monkeys, Newton is great, I just think I'd rather see the whole tree. The cutoff doesn't work for me.

Ah good, I had a feeling that's what it was. 72dpi is hard to get those small details looking good on a monitor sometimes.

I actually really like this design. The artwork is certainly more abstract, but that is absolutely fine.

Keep up the good work.

Perfect. THIS is what i was hoping to see. Actual historic events, just with a broader view. Those crazy monkeys always DID have it in for Newton.

I have to comment again because I just love this concept and your drawings of the monkeys and Newton. I just can't get over how great the illustration and idea is, and yet how badly the cutoff hurts it. Perhaps if you made the tree a little less wide, and then were able to show the whole tree, placing the left monkey on the right side and inverting him? You could keep all the elements without the awkward cutoff?

THIS SHIRT IS SO EPIC I HAVE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS. THIS BETTER NOT GET REJECTED, HITLER OR NOT, THE DERBY THEME IS HISTORY AND IF THE WOOT! GUYS ARE GOING TO ASK PEOPLE TO REFERENCE HISTORY THEY SHOULD ACCEPT HITLER SUBMISSIONS, SEEING AS THOUGH ITS A MAJOR PART OF HISTORY. AND THIS IS A TOTALLY CLASSIC REFERENCE TO HITLER THIS ISN'T OFFENSIVE IN THE LEAST

While the modern bristle brush didn't make an appearance until around 1498 in China. The toothbrush is believed to have been invented in the 1st Millenium BCE.

And if I get rejected because of that... well, with all due respect, than 70% of the derby have to be to. ;)

Ok, that makes sense.

@CHensler2009 - The entire German army was known for that salute, not just Hitler. ;)

Woot better not reject this because it is NOT Hitler. Hitler was thinner, didn't have sideburns, and his stash is very iconic with it being the small strip. This just looks like a German officer imo.

I think it's just Tom Selleck with his stash disguised as a German.

This is a re-draw parody of a pretty famous image.

Because everybody knew one guy in college who loved to get high and ramble on about Che Guevara. But you had to listen to him because he always had the best chronic.

Placement on the shirt only shows everyone where it will be on the shirt itself (front, top and centered). It's up to woot how big/small the final will end up being They won't measure my sample and match it up.

Thanks everyone for the interest!

But one is not portrayed here. And there is certainly not a larger perspective of an historical event.

Aside from that, the colors could just as easily be associated with Pepsi. Without the picture of MLK in the mock-up, this looks like a cloud and nothing more.
