We're getting up to date and as part of the switch to our new, Anvil-made blanks we've got to update our Design Templates (PDF, Illustrator, and Photoshop) to make sure they reflect the change. Take a minute to check out the new, updated templates and be sure to save them for all future designs you might submit our way. And just so you guys are hip to the flave, here are the changes you might notice:

  • The biggest change by far is in our Asphalt Blank. It's not as blue-looking; it's a darker shade, closer to a charcoal color.
  • You may be looking at our Slate and Silver Blanks on the new Design Templates and thinking they look different too, but the truth is we've only updated the template to better reflect the actual color of the shirts they represent. The blanks themselves don't have much of a noticeable change in color.

Got it? Good! Look for more informative blog posts on t-shirt geekery like dyes, color variations, and the shirt-producing process in the future!

The design template is spiritgreen's shirt. All designs forever will be based off of it's glory.

My bad. Refresh the blog post and you should see links to all three templates!

So let's say, hypothetically, that an existing asphalt shirt has black ink. Since the new asphalt blanks are darker, would woot allow tweaks to the design to compensate for the decreased contrast?

Hypothetically speaking, would an artist with a design that is black ink on the new asphalt blank consider having said design printed on a lighter color tee, perhaps slate or (even better) silver? Would Woot consider this? I happen to LOVE my shirt which fits this criteria and would LOVE the design on another color.

They really should. The black-on-asphalt was bad enough as it is. Black-on-smoke (the official color from Anvil) ... it'd be bad even before the print starts to fade.

Either that, or they'd just continue to print them on AA blanks, much like they continued printing ICOON on heather gray long after it was discontinued to use for the submissions. It'll be special. And probably prolong its existence ... much to some folks' dismay.

I really like the darker shade on the Asphalt blank. It was definitely too blue.

Any shirt that would be impacted in this way would receive special consideration from us. We'll discuss directly with the artists what tweaks may be needed to arrive at a suitable design - we can tweak inks, change shirt colors, whatever we need to do to keep the designs looking good.

Wow. I actually loved the color. I just bought three slate shirts this week ('critical hit' 'not like the other' and 'they're too short') and I am disappointed that they're going to be a darker grey.

If this happened, I would personally be almost certain to purchase such a shirt, which I never bought because of all the reviews that a shirt like this is practically impossible to see the design in black ink on even the current asphalt shirt.
