The loud talker. The know-it-all. The person with the spittle perpetually in the corner of their mouth. The body odor bandit. There are all kinds of horrible, crippling personality defects you can find in our office the wild. So this week, illustrate your most repulsive, your most repugnant, or maybe your most endearing personality defects. Okay, maybe they don't have to be your own defects, if that's too hard to share with the group. But defects nonetheless! Illustrate them, preferably humorously, and let us see!

  • No text only designs.

I have an idea (though I'm not quite sure if it's been done before...) and it's not pop culture...but I've got the feeling that after a few weeks with no star wars, mario, etc. this derby is going to be saturated with pop culture stuff...so I don't know what to do :S hahahaha

A person head tilted upwards, eyes closed, spouting off dozens of gigantic stone blocks that form the word "Blah," surrounded by several people who have been flatened by the "blah, blahs." Maybe have the person gesturing wildly?

Just had this idea, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

You should do it though!

Lake Popculture is swollen from the past several derbies, and now the floodgates are open.

I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, it could produce some very funny, clever designs. On the other, will we really want to wear them as t-shirts?

I wouldn't think of just gross personality defects (i.e. bad hygiene). There are a lot of personality flaws that people would, and do, proudly display on their shirts. I think the smart designer will look for those.

They are very common. I'm amazed by people writing wall of text on forums, How do they do that? Is that a Personality Defect?

The person in a crowded elevator who's talking loudly on their cellphone, gesturing wildly... Of course, in my building that person wouldn't be speaking English, in all likelihood, but that's pretty hard to illustrate.

Just one question,

Do "hipsters" count as a personality defect?

;) No design ideas, just thought I'd throw that out there.

No. It just means that we're displaced English majors who enjoy writing but have almost no outlet for our passions.

Here, perhaps this short, forty page essay that I just wrote will better explain things...
;)

A rather unpleasant woman at my gym inspired this suggestion, because she always, ALWAYS looks fit to kill:
A frowning woman, maybe in a retro-advertising style, with the slogan, "Using all 11 muscles!".

OK,maybe Binksian. But I'd wear it

Meh, you need 50 pages for it to be a real defect - all in .25 point font.

It's been a while since I have submitted anything and this contests sounds interesting but I am at a loss. Does anyone have a list of personality defects? I looked it up on Google and got mental disorders, guess they don't consider body odder a defect. Any help would be appreciated, maybe this will be the thing I need to kick start my creativity. Thanks in advance.

See, but you're assuming that I wasn't already using that font size, and that said essay wasn't single spaced, using both sides of the paper.

2 people standing there, 1 with a ton of thought bubbles, the other with headphones on, pretending to listen.

-Egocentricism
-Anxiety
-Shyness
-Nervousness
-Invading other people's personal bubble

Or even general disregard for socially accepted norms. Like that person who still thinks that it's funny to fart in public. Or that weirdo on the bus who doesn't care that people see him picking his nose. Or that random stranger who asks what you think about what brand of shampoo they should buy.

I tend to think of personality defects as those things that the majority of people either know that they likely shouldn't do in a public or group setting, but do anyway. Either because they don't care or just don't realize that what they are doing is a bit...off.

At least that's my take on it. I guess drooling, snoring, burping, or uncontrolled flatuence could be a part of it too, to a degree.

Just think of your least favorite people in your life, and why it is that you dislike them so much?

Just a few:
Correcting other people constantly/ Being a know-it-all
Butting in on conversations
Anything related to being socially awkward
Not listening while another person is speaking.

Oh and I was once in the middle of class (band, actually) and some guy starting picking his belly button.
I was so grateful to not be anywhere near him...

An illustration of a self-destructive inclination. I tried to make it look like an illustration in a book. I still need to half-tone etc, but thought I'd put it out there for notes. Also, should I include the text?
