The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.

Did ya all realize, that if one so desired, they could go and volunteer at many local hospitals? Some even let you rock the babies...ah, how sweet. Anyways, I did this a few years back and got to hang out with the teenagers, organizing activites and playing video games. Good times.

Alien, person of no age
How are the beautiful childs little brother and big sister doing?

Little brother get any more teeth?

That child really is beautiful, you should blow that picture up into a poster or can you still have pictures made into paintings? I have a pic of my kids when my son is a few weeks old that I thinking of doing that to. I think the paint is put on by computer some how.
You want to keep that pic forever, it has us hooked and we never met him!

Caring Bridge

http://www.caringbridge.com/

A place to heal, celebrate and share.

CaringBridge™ is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization offering free personalized Web sites to those wishing to stay in touch with family and friends during significant life events. Their mission is to bring together a global community of care powered by the love of family and friends in an easy, accessible and private way.

CaringBridge authors quickly and easily create personalized Web sites that display journal entries and photographs. Well-wishers visit the site to read updates and leave messages in the Guestbook.

The CaringBridge experience is unique for both authors and visitors in its immediacy, intimacy and wide-reaching impact. They make profound human connections, using technology to serve a higher purpose in a powerful way.

As of January 24, 2006, they have hosted more than 35,000 CaringBridge sites. Those sites have received more than 210 million visits and over 5 million guestbook messages.

Generous donors help make CaringBridge available free of charge to anyone who desires their service. Your tax-deductible support is crucial to helping them continue to create communities of caring.

Your donation helps build CaringBridge sites for families all over the world …

$50 helps 1 family build a CaringBridge web site.
$100 helps 2 families.
$1,000 helps 20 families.

I found this site upon realizing that a co-worker's son had developed cancer and was airlifted to St. Jude"s hospital in Memphis, TN from Baton Rouge, LA the day Hurricane Katrina hit. I immediately made a $50 donation. His site keeps everyone abreast of the news without putting pressure on families to repeatedly explain on-going treatment. It is also a lifeline to the sick child, who is able to stay in touch with family and friends far away. Please visit the site and look up Spencer Boyer (should be typed in lower case letters with no space between words.)

This is an easy inexpensive way to aid families when the bottom has dropped out of their world. Thanks.

Hello, I am new here. Just found this tred. Too many posts to read...don't know if this one has been suggested: http://modestneeds.com/

What is Modest Needs?
Modest Needs is a non-profit organization reaching out to hard-working individuals and families who suddenly find themselves faced with small, emergency expenses that they have no way to afford on their own.

Most persons living paycheck to paycheck earn just barely too much to qualify for any type of conventional assistance. This means they can't receive the help they need to overcome a short-term crisis - until they've already lost everything.

Modest Needs exists because we think there's a better way to do things. As far as we're concerned, no hard-working person should ever have to choose between taking a child to the doctor and putting food on the table.

How Modest Needs Works
At Modest Needs, compassionate persons whose lives have been touched by kindness pass that kindness on to hard-working individuals and families struggling with the burden of an unexpected emergency expense.

We do this by helping these persons to afford small, emergency expenses like those we've all encountered before: the unexpected car repair, the unanticipated visit to the doctor, the unusually large winter heating bill.

Operating this way since 2002, Modest Needs' donors - regular people just like you - have kept 2101 individuals and families from entering the cycle of poverty over a small, emergency expense. And in keeping with our philosophy, we never ask for anything in return.
