This really does look like it has gradients. It wouldn't be here if it did, but it sure looks like it.

I didn't notice the modification either until it was pointed out. Now I can't get the original out of my mind. You're right...the modified version is better. But, both are very cute!

Congrats. You've just given them even more reason never to print a power symbol. it's been done ;)

I think it's rough that the guy's design got axed for it, as there's obviously a lot going on which isn't power-symbol-y, but then I ask, what does the power symbol add to the design? The answer I come up with is "nothing."

Also, it might be worth noting that ThinkGeek, as the premier outlet for things that only a supreme geek would be caught dead buying, may have struck a deal with the guys who own the copyright, since only a complete geek would think the symbol on their computer was worth having on a shirt.

ok, so it's a good idea, but seriously... lame joke shirts are a dime a dozen on the internet and if that's what people are into why are they wasting their time voting at shirt.woot? if thats what you're into just go and by a funny-hohoho shirt somewhere. it'd be great to see the woot community get behing some of the really talented artists that pump out great illustrations that must take hours to do! viva-la-illustrators!

ErWenn wrote:I was stunned not to see any shirts like this when I first created the design. It seemed...well, obvious. When I couldn't find any other shirts out there, I figured it must've been one of those nobody-goes-there-because-it's-too-crowded kind of things (or one of those elephant-in-the-room things) and so I decided to take a tip from the Captain himself and make one. (I've always thought it'd be useful to have a superhero on your team that could never miss anything obvious and would never be afraid to point it out.) Even after I made the design, I double-checked to make sure no one had beat me to the punch. Turns out I missed someone who had. Don't know why their shirt didn't get more votes than it did.

Did anyone check on the dates of the other Captain Obvious shirts out there? Were they ones I just missed, or did they really start springing up after the contest here? I'm not claiming that anybody stole my idea. That would just be stupid, like trying to take credit for making a "No sh*t, Sherlock" or an "I'm not a rocket scientist" shirt. I'm just curious.

Thanks for the pleasant comments. Didn't expect to win here, but it was slightly disappointing to find my entry disqualified from a contest it was invited to. I hope that doesn't happen to a lot of the shirts.

I have a Captain Obvious shirt that I bought almost a year ago from Cafe Press.
