Some other creative choice of colors would have looked fabulous.

Thank you so much! I had some misgivings about the white, because I personally don't wear a lot of white tee shirts, but the other colors did not give the contrast that I wanted. So it was definitely something I considered.

Yours is very cool too. And you're in the fog, congrats!

Re: Cultural Assimilation

Axed the text, but left the rest. This is my form of assimilation. If out ancestors had retained their identity as a whole, when immigrating to this country, America would have no identity. It has been through cultural assimilation that we have a national identity. While we remain diverse assimilation is required of citizenship.

Re: Courtesy Flush

I didn't even see this until I scrolled down to see if anything had been rejected yet.

In response to the rejection comment: It wouldn't have been so wrong/gross if the handle didn't look like it had poo splatter on it. Otherwise, I'd fully support the notion of "courtesy flushing" as an act of citizenship!

Thanks Narkus! And thanks for the nice words about the DaVinci one too. It's going to be fun to see that one printed. If the painting isn't on my website when you get your tax refund, then email me and maybe I can work on something for you as a custom painting.

Are you telling me that people remember Tiananmen square because of a *movie* that made fun of it? That's horrible.

I tried to bring that message across with this abstract design: I went for the swirls to simulate floating upwards, Lady liberty is obvious, and the stars are a sign of hopefulness - the ribbon keeping them all together in one big wish.

(I wasn't thinking of fireworks or 4th of July when I made this... I simply used the picture in the background afterward)

I liked the colors on thise version more then on the grass shirt, maybe its because the line work is darker, i dunno..

The area right below the big blue splatter and just above the neckline in the tshirt comp looks like a green or lime green splatter. Maybe its just my monitor.

WonderWooter wrote:I think it works better without the jail cell (and I will be SUPER explanatory and list my reasons)

1. when I saw the jail cell, I thought it was like depicting Guantanamo or something and was going to play negative with like the "immigration" stuff and that

2. I think the message of the shirt is that the masses tend to target the "oddball" and encourage them to conform by sheer peer pressure. (could be wrong)

Although I will have to say that the masses sure look a lot happier than your little dissenter . . .doesn't exactly make distention look like a fun hobby

Excellent suggestions! I might redo and resubmit!

The colours have been separated on individual layers so i know there's 6 colours. Just wondering, what 7th colour do you see? Also, I tried making the splatters solid enough that there are no gradients/halftones. But, it's up to Woot. =)

I dont see the 7 colors, but i do see that the fuzzy edges might be cause for rejectonating.. hope not tho!

Re: Uncle Sam and His Lady Liberty Unite for Freedom

Thanks for the feedback...looked more like Lincoln to me too, thus the title spelling it out.

In silhouette world they look similar I think, maybe I should have buffed up the fellow some.

As far as the abrupt cut off on the bottom, Im just not good enough to know how to eliminate that or design around it...any ideas?

I don't think most people remember it because of that movie.

I agree. The idea with mine was to make it different from the shirts that already exist out there. Nobody likes it though...they think I copied this one. Feh.

Sorry you feel that way. Wasn't aware that i wasn't allowed to comment on people's things. Just being honest as i have been in each and every derby since i got active here. I have lots of Positive comments on shirts that i like. Thank you for the original vote which you pulled.

Nah .. i know you didnt copy this one.
I went through something similar a few derbies ago. Shirts already existed. I didnt know until later. So then i asked people not to vote anymore (was unable to pull it since the "x" was not longer available). I also tattled on my shirt to get it rejected.

Re: A True Citizen's Dream

This is existential. simple, beautiful design that captures american citizenship. When immigrants came to ellis island, this statue served as a beacon of hope. also, this shirt is awesome
