tgentry: Congrats on fog, as soon as you posted up the design in the forums last night I knew it'd be a winner!
Anthony: Really like the shading work on your dreamers! Cool BG too
Failoan: It's funny you put the gradient disclaimer on your comp, as it really looks like there are gradients! How'd you do that? (also huge congratulations on first place last week!)

First and foremost, I'd like to put it out there that yes, every piece of source art I incorporate is clear to print
. I actually obtain the art from several sources, but typically the ones I need are not exactly the highest quality. Much manipulation and filtration are necessary to bump them up to print-ready resolutions, as you can see in the 100% zoom of the little girl. Usually each individual source artpiece is modified, from anything as simple as cutting sections out, combining source art into a single unified piece (e.g. girl+unicorn), or complete re-shaping a piece (Liquify, etc). This part is very time consuming, as I'll find sources that I like a lot, but don't exactly work as I'd like them to. Then I'll need to find ways to "fix" them to then incorporate into my design (this includes sources that may have too much or too little line shading; Removing lines is easy, adding is tough
).
As excited as I am to be fogged, I'm sad that I knocked Edgar out!! But then again, the derby did, like, just open, so there's no telling what'll happen by Friday. Good luck everyone!
(p.s., consider iDanSimpson officially retired from my comps! lo l)
