I googled "operation tee shirt" and then i went to threadless and did a catologue search for "operation". I'll try your approach next time.

Ok, two comments:

1) No, the gears won't spin as much on an actual shirt. The illusion (like pretty much all optical illusions) relies on having a flat piece of paper. Also, the refresh rate of a computer monitor makes this effect much, much more pronounced than it would be printed on a shirt.

2) Way to trace the first result on Google Images.

Your composite only shows part of the gun, but your detailed image posed in this thread shows the whole gun which is it? I think you're better to go withe the image of the full gun and let the user tuck it in as needed.

Yeah... there's a lot of really fun, creative things I had swirling around in my head when I saw the theme, but then I remembered the printing restrictions with both placement options and no gradients.

Then again, some artists have done quite well in working with solid colors and the placement restrictions, like Skektek's pocket fish.
