Are you kidding? I’ve been following the derby for a while, and there are certain things that I’d hoped I’d someday see about one of my designs, like little milestones: Someone saying “well done” on the execution, someone actually saying “I’d buy that!” or some variation (there’s a first for everything!), someone mentioning the word “daily” under my design (other shirt), and someone, someday, actually adding my voter button to their sig. And there it is, right by the bouncing chinchilla! And did you see what tgentry wrote? Whatever happens, I’ve gotten far more out of this derby than I could have ever asked. Thanks for your encouragement – and the added visibility!

I love this design (as well as your screen name... was figuring you had the car; I'd love to have a car like that someday, but fear I'm too many generations behind it, since that car's almost twice as old as me)
Anyway, had hopes of you doing well, but feared like you did at first that it was too late. Come on fog! I wanna buy this one!

atlinden wrote:I really like this shirt and I really like your shirts that are this style KLS. I think it is a good thing to have a style that people can recognize. Think about famous artist in history and tell me that they don't have a style that is their own that makes their work easy to pick out of a crowd. But I will say this about the shirt. I do like the placement but i feel that the image on the shirt makes it look like the design might be a bit too big. I fell like a shirt with the design placed near the shoulder or one of the corners should spill over too much into the center of the shirt. Maybe if the streams coming off the main design did more that would be fine but it seems to me that the main portions of the design is too big for that maybe its because of the text. I also feel that the text over complicates the image a bit but it also works well the way you did it. Just thought I would try and throw some constructive but friendly criticism into the forum. I will say I think this is a very good looking drawing though I just thing parts of it don't quit seem to transfer over to the shirt. But I really like shirts with placements like this one, centered shirts are boring. But good job and good luck on this and your future entries.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your taking the time to leave feedback. I agree with you on many points and if I had the choice, I'd not add text to my designs. But, I felt it needed to be included to make the design more derby relevant. I also agree that the design might be too large for the current placement. I was afraid that if I went too small, the text would be too difficult to read and would print poorly.

Thank you again. Your comments are very useful and I appreciate them!

no....they both look terrible. that is the point. live trace is lame. i could have backed it down to 3 colors like appears to have been done instead of the default 6 and gotten similar results. look at the face "detail" on the shirt in derby. looks ummm.... really detailed and defined. like i said, nice job.

And isn't this what makes shirt.woot so great? Nerds get shirts like this that artists wouldn't wear. Artists get shirts that nerds wouldn't wear. The masses get meme shirt that the sophisticated wouldn't wear. The sophisticated get to complain about the meme shirts that the masses get to wear. What a nice system.

I'm sick of this, frankly. I detailed how I made this design, a couple of times. I posted pictures showing the difference between the live-trace from Vector Magic that I used and the 'hand traced' version that I made. I get the message- you hate it. You have such vitriol inside that you have to pick on a design to release the venom. Fine, this week, you chose my design. good for you. Just know, I worked very hard on this design, and I purposely chose to make it with a few colors just because I think it is a better design that way; with more colors, I think the detail becomes too cluttered. I suppose I could have done a better job on the face, but I did the best that I thought I could do. The truth is that the nose is mostly broken off of the original I used, and it looked the way that I made it. You can probably thank Cortez for that damage. I f you can't appreciate the several hours I spent on this design, which doesn't have any careless errors on it, then all I can say is, I'm sorry about that. I'll try to do a better job next time, because I couldn't quite get my idea across to enough people that this was a really wearable, neat design that people would like to wear. Maybe next week you'll have another target, one who is a bit more patient than me. If so, I feel sorry for that person who won't have deserved the angry, pointless attack any more than I did.

I loved this reply...and it sums up shirt.woot pretty darn closely. But, I liked ELS' question about the art nerds.

I think I tend to be a fusion of a few of the woot groups that you mentioned.

Hey Josephus,
There are going to be people like this always so I would not worry about it. Actually, you never needed to explain yourself about how you did the design to begin with. Unless it is outright copyright infringment no one needs to explain themselves about their designs. Either the design looks good or it does not. Everyone can either vote for them or....not.
