In space, no one can see your arms.

You can actually test this by going to space yourself to check. It's totally freaky!

Re: Why Can't I Fly, Friend?

While I am not a fan of the subject of flying pengiuns (and groaned when I saw this one even though it is VERY well done), Joel's actions are out of line. Had there been a "no flying pengiun" rule in place before the derby, he would be within his rights to reject it. But there was no rule ahead of time. This entry needs to stay because rejection on a "whim" because "I can do it and no one can stop me" is very childish and unfair. Let the penguin stay and let the "No flying pengiun" rule be in effect after this derby.

Unfortunately, there's nothing to be done now that it's been rejected. It's not possible to resurrect rejected submissions except via resubmission. As heart-breaking as this rejection is, woot reserves the right to reject anything for any reason. It's their show.

Besides, look at the awesome ostrich version that came out of the rejection. ^_^

tgentry wrote:Well I welcomed advice and thanked him for his suggestions. If I'm 'defensive' it's only because he seemed to then imply after that that I'm not putting forth enough effort and something was wrong with my attitude. I don't think that's invaluable advice, especially from someone that I don't know and doesn't know me. If you want to critique my work, by all means do, I won't (and didn't) take it personally. But telling me that there's always something wrong with my entries and commenting on my attitude is not constructive. Frankly for the two or three hours I can put in a week, I think my entries are doing just fine.

I don't really understand why I'm getting a barrage of these types of comments all of a sudden. It seems they are always from the same people too. If you don't like my work, fine. It seems a lot of people are very quick to try and start something with 'observations' around here, so I'm just going to ignore it from here on out. I'm not for or against anyone, I don't belong to any of the woot.shirt cliques and I'd prefer to avoid the kind of @$%$storms that are so common place. Thanks.

geez man. i'm not against you....i have a few of your shirts! responding to the suggestion that you might be a tad defensive by getting REALLY defensive doesn't help matters much

Re: Why Can't I Fly, Friend?

I was tired of flying penguins, too, but if I was a Woot god, would never do anything as unfair as what was done to you. I'm not fond of this design either, but I voted for it just on principle! James, your response was gracious and mature and you deserve better! I hope you demand your rights back for the penguin under the circumstances. You followed all the rules that were in place at the time.

Thanks artulo! The first times I added the tail on the giraffe it did not look right so I liked it better without it and submitted it without one. I reworked it a few more times after calls for tails and now he has a great angry tail.

Ah, thank you. It's nice to see the detail work that sometimes gets lost in the shrink. It has an interesting, almost threadlike (say embrodery) look to it. Nice job.

as a lover of all things steampunk, this is a valiant effort, but doesn't quite capture the true essence of it. there's not enough modernity in it to really elevate it from "historic contraption" to steampunk. It's also too flat...more of a schematic than a machine itself because there's no depth.

keep at it though! cho should repost that link he posted earlier to "how to draw steampunk"

You need to remove one of the two colors you have in there. I'd suggest removing the white. And now that the outline is gone you can round out the top of the tree if you want. ^_^
