Really nice design, like it was said.. resub with a smaller graphic and it looks like there may be gradients in the tree which is a no no.

One small thing though, as I do not get the pocket thing either. At first I thought the highlighted squares would show a lot more foliage, as in the tree blooming for spring. Maybe think about adding some extra leaves/buds in those pockets.. Sort of like.. hey look at this dead tree.. oh wait, I SEE SPRING!

I think that in many instances, it's relevant to the wearer if someone else could create an similar shirt using clip art/vectors. I know that there have been occasions where artists have implied that the artwork was theirs, when in fact, only the compilation of the generic elements are theirs. I understand that to some buyers, this might not be overly relevant, but to many of the buyers, it could make a big difference.

If another user asks a question about if the artwork is original, they quickly get flamed. Would you agree that disclosure by the artist up front would be appropriate?

(This quesiton isn't really meant for you specifically, just in general).

Nobody said anything last week when I said I drew my cute little beaver entry based on a stuffed animal. Granted it was still original artwork but based on the toy. Not sure if that's the same thing or not but it's something I noticed. The one person who did say something happens to be the same troll that goes after myself and Jaden every week.

I don't like the huge spring... so if they reject it because it is outside the printable area I would make that smaller (or remove it alltogether) and keep the bunny & guy the same

Okay, so someone's already mentioned that the shirt color needs to be corrected.

...but nobody's said what color shirt it's supposed to be on. ^_^ So what color is it?

Its probably just because you used the most popular skull from gomedia vector pack, (also the one they place on the box). I like the colors and the design, especially the spider

Nah, nobody cares about the skull. It's the flowering that has a few people bothered. It is a sweet skull though.

This is one time I don't mind it's on an asphalt shirt. The bright colors are great against the gray, and the black swirl makes it less frou-frou. Very nice.

Re: Spring Shming, Where's My Coffee

This so reminded me of my late father when you first put it up on the discussion boards - glad to see it's doing so well! What a perfect father's day gift. There's just something so adorable about this ol' bear, grumbling, standing there in his fuzzy robe with his coffee, so typical of so many dads in all our lives. You were inspired with this one, I must say.

The best ideas are the ones that come to you in a flash and that you can get down on paper quickly, then translate easily into a great design, right?

How fun are these derbies??? I love it.

Re: Spring Shming, Where's My Coffee

tgentry, I had a dream about this bear last night, and woke up with the feeling that I must let you know. I dreamt that the bear was angry that he didin't have argyle socks. Or was it that he wanted an argyle bathrobe? Hmmm. It's starting to get dim.

Oh well. I probably need more sleep. Later.

littlejetties wrote:I would like some input on why this vacuums. I will admit that I just discovered the pen tool a week ago, but I feel like this is better than some other designs that have more votes. Please give me some constructive criticism. Is the lack of expertise blatantly evident? Or is it just that people don't want to wear shirts with fish on them? I don't mean to sound like a whiner. I didn't expect a winner or anything, I just thought maybe a few votes would come my way.

This site and it's derbies have inspired me to create and I'd like to know what I could be doing to improve on my designs.

Thanks.

This is a really nice design, very well done, but I have to agree with the other comment, how is this related to spring? Do the pompano run only in the spring in Florida? Being in Washington state, I don't have a clue about the fish there. Maybe a little explanation would help people understand? Just a suggestion.

Re: Cherry Blossoms

This shirt is so, so beautiful. Yeah, it's girly, but some past winners have been, too. I don't understand Woot voters - it's a mystery! I look like "kwap" in cream color shirts, but I would make an exception for this one - it's a winner, in my opinion.

Re: Pockets of Spring II

I left the light blue even though the shirt looks like white. I accidentally left it white on the shirt but the print-ready file is still light blue. I had to resize the design to fit within the proportions they want even though I did like the old size better. I also matched the brown color they need, it was the closest to my old color.

That's a 10-4. Thanks for responding. The pompano do indeed arrive in spring. They pass by a second time in the fall, but the spring run lasts pretty much all spring and the weather is much more conducive to fishing. Thanks again for the input. I appreciate it.

kimbo3311 wrote:OH.... MY.... GOSH. I cannot believe there is a shirt submitted at Woot that has a Florida Pompano on it. I used to do research on how to raise them for aquaculture. What a great fish. They really are beautiful when you watch them swim. And they are extremely tasty. I wish I could say that I would wear this, but as a female, I just can't see myself wearing a large fish on my shirt... if only it was smaller... Nice job on the detail though!

Kimbo,
That is cool that you worked with pompano. I'm glad you like the design.
