...that's funny. I reviewed the actual text from the play for typos, but didn't review the simple text.. that wuz teh funneh

Because it's just plain text added to the text that makes a design. That is to say, it does not make a picture of its own.

EDIT: I'm not accusing, I'm curious.

I like the art, but I'm not so sure about the background color. Did you try any others?

wootbot wrote:But there's a catch: the letters have to form an illustration of some kind. Whether you go the ASCII art route or imitate the lava-lamp lettering of the psychedelic Sixties, get your text into shape.

I believe this would be the ASCII route. If I am reading this right the words he is using are forming the illistration of a skull.

I think the better question is whether woot requires that the letters form the shape as is.. IE, no fading out of the letters to make smooth transitions. Do we need to have full letters at all ends of the design, or can we fade out or eliminate the left side of (example) an A to make an edge?

The other question is whether if we do any hatches, shading, etc, that the shading lines themselves need to be characters/text...

Oh, this will be an interesting time seeing what gets rejected and what doesn't.

BTW, I am a bit envious of the skull shakespeare. I take a look at the work I did on the shark, then the skull entry on the previous page, and I see a big difference in probable votes... dangit...

I think they'd appeal to different people, though. I like both.

I was trying to make a beach scene using repeating words, but after seeing the sketches tossed up here already, I think I'll go back to voting rather than creating!

Oh trust me, that wouldn't be (wait for it.... wait for it.... ) hard, but Woot'd probably kick it to the curb.

Is extended ascii char allowed? I helped do a few bbs game graphics using ascii in the early 90's. this could oped the design creativity a little..... back in the 2800 baud days

It's my own belief (not official) that it has to be numbers and letters, maybe symbols. The extended blocks and shadings (like 176-178) probably would get booted. I'd say everything has to be instantly recognizable as text.

If that shading is text, other wise no lines, fills, etc. Only text

Otherwise I think this is exactly what they mean about text = art. Nice concept.

I would buy it but you have to fix the color around the USA to match the color of the shirt... GMV if ya do that.

Forgot to mention the fact that Stars are not text... you will have to turn the stars into text some how... Maybe with ASCII.

I think he may mean the white border around the U and part of the S. But without it they wouldn't exist!

Looks great! I can see this doing very well in the competition. Perhaps align the top "yummy" and "cheeseburger" better. The bottom "yummy" looks a bit too straight too. That's my two cents.

There is a darker shade of navy around the design...get rid of that part and it'll look much better.

Thanks, glad you like it. I agree those words look out of place. I'm not sure if "yummy" and "yum" are the best to use there, but I thought the repetition made it funny enough in a stupid way.

What about "Freedom Fries?" I initially had "French Fries," then just "Fries," but I'm not sure it'll turn some people away.

I know exactly how that happened. I've gotta get this monitor calibrated. Once again the help here is invaluable.

Use other letters for windows and decorative elements. Vector drawing programs are great at stretching and mushing letters.

Comments?

EDIT: Yes, I know there's a spelling mistake on the original sketch....

If you make some fish with the George B. Shaw spelling of "ghoti" I will buy it right now.
