Unforutnately, woot only allows 6 colors in it's shirt designs. This one really needs all 7, so I don't even know what to recommend.

The flame on the torch is the letter G, so when you follow it down the length of the torch it goes "Give me your" ("y" is the torch handle, "our" are fingers) and then you can follow it down the arm "tired, your poor," and on from there. :-)

Thanks for your vote!

So does Lincoln get to avoid celebrity rejection since he is dead? Or is he in a different category? Just curious.
Good choice of colors by the way

Re: Nevermore

I'm not really an active woot person, but I like looking at the designs and I order shirts now and then. I don't normally write, but am now because I'm a little surprised that 3 of the 4 designs made it to the top 4.

I like Edgar, but I don't get this shirt. It's the outline of a raven and a line by line copy and paste job of The Raven. There is nothing poignant about it. This artists could have also just written "The Raven" in the shape of a raven and it would have had the same effect. He could have also written "This is the only poem I've ever read" in the shape of a Raven. I guess if that's how it was treated or "The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe" then at least it would leave you thinking there was a possibility of it being tongue in cheek humor. At that point it would be ridiculous. Right now it just looks like someone taking himself seriously. People wearing this shirt would also look like they take themselves too seriously.

I get the Nevermore one I guess. I like the Abraham Lincoln one because Lincoln is awesome and is drawn well. There's good detail in his face and I guess I've always had a soft spot for people with acromegaly. But on the same principle as the Poe shirts, I guess I'm surprised that you can make it that far by just quoting something famous and drawing a picture to go with it. Seems a little elementary.

I'm a little surprised that he Poe ones specifically made it into the top 4 though when there is more thought and artistic talent put into so many of the others. I'm not trying to be mean to the creator, so please don't take offense. I'm just being critical of the taste of the people voting here.

Has anyone seen the cow parts one? The body is a wonderland one? I think those are clever. But that's me and I always think biology is funny. If I was more of a hippie, I'd totally be into the Pi/Pie one. I'm also a jerk and don't wear band tshirts.

Might have to do with the date of the original photograph or artwork. The Lincoln referenced art might be public domain, but the Samuel Jackson photo is probably still protected by copyright. That would be my guess.

Well, Lincoln is dead and his image isn't part of a copyrighted movie. I thought there might be a problem. I would love to have this shirt, though!

but "no celebrity likeness" is a different rule than "no copyrighted material". Both have been used for rejector reasoning, even though a copyrighted celeb photo likeness would be the same as a copyrighted tree likeness. But like every week, the rejector has been nothing if not fickle.

Fact is, "no celebrity likeness" implies that a drawing of a celeb is just as taboo as a trace of their face. Consistency, as always, would be lovely. I wonder if it's because Abe's dead and old, he's not "celebrity"?

I think it has to do with the dead part, and general age part. Noone associated with Lincoln is probably actively attempting to make money off of his image (only those that wish to profit from it having no direct association with him or his ancestors). That is not true for Samuel L. Jackson, Pulp Fiction, etc.

That said, I'd love for consistency in rules, and for all of the celeb likenesses to be rejected.

Gotta be honest that I'm not likely to buy, since I'm not into Buddha or yoga, and his eyes kind of creep me out. If everyone else is gonna do image overlays, I guess I'll throw my hat in there too. Text is the opening dialogue from "Duck Soup". The photo was from an old picture collection CD of stills that I had which were meant for public usage, though if this wins I'll probably have to document provenance somewhere. The photo is around 65 years old.

Maybe it pertains to celebrities in the 'here and now'. Guess we need further clarification from woot as to what defines a 'celebrity' when it comes to shirt designs. I figured it had to do with the reference photo.
