Great shirt! I really like it, but could there be some copyright concerns here?

Awesome shirt. I'm definitely in for one should it get chosen, and I'm generally picky about Woot! shirts. It's a great theme all around, but still I love love love the shirt. (Gettysberg)

Re: Cold Dead Hands

You did a good job associating the quote with a gun. I just don't see any text in the dwg of the man with the hat. I'm not sure that it pertains to the quote either.

You might want to consider withdrawing this and resubmitting it without the non-text portion.

i used only the biblical quote for the text (so i dont see any issues with the script)

i drew the picture by hand before the text overlay so hopefully that will get by the likeness side

I can cross my fingers that the fog will change by Thursday... I really want to wear this to the beach this summer! Maybe to the pool, too... This is one shirt that got the thumbs up from the whole family, though I might be the only one hoping to use it as a swimsuit coverup. Great job!

I promise to make it available in 60 days after the contest ends, but I don't know how much summer will be left... Thanks for the good vibes!

Re: Quoth the Raven

Thanks for all the votes and comments everyone! I'm excited that my design is doing so well (although it's still early!) especially since this is only my second derby.
As for the roughness of the design, it was entirely intentional, and it's my interpretation of the poem. I really appreciate the comments and critiques, though, so thanks!

Thanks Parker! Glad you like the design. It's a tough week this week. I'm actually surprised at the disparity in votes this week. Usually the ones in the top 10 are closer together. But, there's already a huge disparity from 5th to 6th place. Looks like the ones in the fog are truly untouchable. The top four and James' Pi are really high in vote totals for it only being Sunday. Anyone else think the numbers are really high for the top 5 for it only being Sunday?

Thanks KLS. I came close to calling it quits on this one, but I'm glad I stuck it out. I started this in Photoshop using the Transform>Warp function, but the edges were so fuzzy (anti-aliasing), that I gave up on that. Finally I figured out how to do it in Illustrator. I think I can officially call myself an expert at using Illustrator's "Envelope Distort" function.

VOTE!

Your effort may not pay off for this derby given the huge amount of numbers in the top 5 entries already, but the hard work shows. And hopefully you can use all that you learned in Illustrator in another derby. Great job. I don't know Illustrator, but the envelope distort sounds interesting. Do you create the shape that you want and then 'ask' the software to mold the letters to the shape?

Cripes, I totally forgot about warping functions. For my own entry, I spent hours playing around with the pen tool and marquees. I'm not very good with the pen, having mostly worked with basic shapes for clean web design. I know a basic technique using gaussian blur and levels to smooth fuzziness out (which I used in my own design at the end) - if only I had thought to warp, skew, etc!

I plan on learning Illustrator eventually. This summer, maybe.

In some places, summer won't start until about 60 days from now (Memorial Day), so you should be fine. And summer lasts a Loooooong time in some places, including woot's HQ's.

I does seem high - but every week, more people learn about woot, so it may be that more people are eligible to vote.
Keep in mind that we really don't know the #s for the fog; when shirts bounce in and out, SDS has trouble with the estimation tool. Don't know that that's a factor yet, but the tool is still only a few months old, and we should take those #s with a grain of salt.
