I went for this one over the other raven because people can get the point without having to come up close and squint at my chest.

Hi Guys,
The text is actually readable when you print it. They are bible verses. But next time, will definitely put a close up photo of the text or artwork. This is my first entry ever! Thanks for posting a comment

Very nice design. While my da vinci design was "hack" at best (lined "text", colored to resemble an image), yours is quite nice. GMV.

The thumbnail and the tshirt template have different backgrounds AND the backlines you are talking about only show up in the thumbnail. That's usually grounds for rejection, but since it is so close to the end of the derby, woot will probably let it slide unless it gets a huge surge of votes.

As others have pointed out, woot has the right to do this. We say this in almost every derby. This is woot's party. No one has forced you to attend. If woot doesn't fit your needs, there is nothing to stop you from finding another tshirt site - or tshirt company - that works better for you.

Woot is not the only source for AA shirts. You can get them directly from the company, print your own design in your basement, and sell them on your own website. If you do decide that's a better route for you, (this is for anyone reading this, not necessarily directed to stargrey), then I wish you success!

Bin4givn wrote:I like the concept but it would be better if the font size was smaller and the text closer over all. More space between the O2 to make it more noticable and rounder apples would help too. Good start

I agree with all this. I also would have liked this on light blue (for the sky - would have meant a change for O2, of course) or tan.

Re: Fly High

THis is not on a tshirt template. I think it is too late to resubmit.

For future derbies, woot is very picky about having designs on a shirt template, since this determines where on the shirt you want your design printed. They also insist that your thumbnail have the same background as the shirt. Each derby, one of the first posts is a list of guidelines compiled by derekfilley (sp?) based on what woot has rejected in the past. Please add it to you reading list.

I -really- like this shirt, and while technically I could sort of duplicate it myself, I don't think it would be as good.

Those are some mighty complements- thank you. I don't know how easy it is to get stuff printed elsewhere, but if I can easily set up a cheap shop for some designs, I'll let you know. Some of my friends have suggested that this might look better if the weapons were arranged differently. Any suggestions?

Here you go:

For future reference, you can go to the blog, find the shirt in question, click on the discussion, and there will be a link in one of the early posts. For older shirts, check the reckoning posts in the blog, where you will find links for the all the available shirts as of the previous Monday.

If someone has a quicker way to find a link, please let tenB know.

Re: Leonardo da Vinci's Handwriting

Thanks for the compliments on my Vitruvian Man. The concept of yours is great, especially the use of da Vinci's actual handwriting. How did you get this text into the design? Is it a font style? Did you scan it in? Anyways, good job.

Leonardo wrote in a very unique way. He wrote in his own shorthand from right to left, instead of how Italian is typically written from left to right. I thought a self portrait of Leonardo using his unique handwriting style would make a beautiful shirt. I hope some of you agree.

You know, there are a few designs in this derby I really like, but nothing I've actually considered worthy of my Canadian dollar. "Going Bananas" is still my favourite, but I wouldn't have bought it if it had placed. I think I would have gotten this one though. It really is an impressive shirt.

There's always the visual back catalog which lists all the shirts currently available on woot. It isn't always up-to-date (though it will only ever be a couple of days behind, usually).

I've noticed that some shirt designs don't seem to have a discussion page. "Grow," for instance, is missing the link to a discussion page where it's listed in my account page, and the blog for it doesn't have a link to discussion either.

It's because it was offered as part of a deadly duo. The discussion will be posted under the original offering.

Wait, WHAT.

*does research*

It was offered with the unicorn?!? GAH. Now I'm depressed that I didn't get a chance to buy that. Why didn't you Americans realize us Canadians needed shirts *earlier* ?

I mean, it's cold up here. I could have worn both at once. You know, layers.

Thank you, yeah, I can understand that.
I was going to try to put the words into the shape of a whiskey glass, but this way I can fit more verses while keeping a large enough font. Perhaps I'll do something similar next time a derby lends itself to this idea.

It is meticulously separated from the background of some of his other sketches and just repeated, basically. No font or anything, just careful separation of the writing from the distressed and shaded paper, copy, paste, etc. I don't speak a bit of Italian, much less backwards shorthand Italian, so it probably says some awful things.

Glad we could get at least 2 good da vinci designs in here, even if neither will make it to print.

Thank you very much. It makes me very happy to have a comment like this, especially with all the great entries (not talking about the top entries, necessarily, but there is definitely quality in the ranks). Thanks again.

I do want to say, for the record, that this is ultimately a rehashing of Leonardo's own artwork and writing, and not necessarily my own, so I do not deserve much of the credit. But I still appreciate all the kind words. In this particular instance, I would be happy to donate any winnings to a museum or other charity because I do feel this way.

That would ruin the pun though. The image is made up of the word "Going", as well as "I'm" at the bottom of each. The image as a whole represents the phrase "I'm Going Bananas."
