I downloaded the shirt outline from the Derby Entry page, it's the Adobe Photoshop version. I had to reduce the ppi to get under the 500kb limit. Does the whole design have to be made directly onto the shirt outline?

You need to have enough of the shirt on the image you submit at 600x600 pixels for them to be able to see where the design goes on the shirt, and how big the design is meant to be, relatively speaking. You don't even have to use the actual design template they provide, though you do need the design on the shirt that you submit to be on the correct shirt color.Quite a few people use a 'real shirt' template provided by a user (Jack) that can be found on the world of woot page. Some even draw a rough shirt shape; as long as they can tell where it is supposed to be, how big it is, and the shirt color, you should be OK. Oh, and you might also get rejected if your shirt image doesn't show enough of the detail of the design that the viewer can tell what they're voting for. I had one rejected for that once.

Re: Greedland

Thanks James and ansharp. I just also wanted to add, woot now has a built-in cost to resubbing. This resub will likely not appear in the redo derby, which is one less shot I'd have then. That was a risk I was willing to take because I liked this entry in this derby. I'm not just throwing around resubs willy nilly. I think it fit really well and the changes were an improvement. I certainly wasn't out for a quick buck. I don't need the money from woot, it's simply a creative outlet that happens to pay as a bonus. Plus there are easier, less degrading ways to make a quick buck, like freelance work or becoming a gigilo.

tgentry wrote:I think a good entry deserves a second chance to fix what didn't work the first time regardless of who does it. If it's a design that didn't resonate the first time then what's the big complaint, other than the minor annoyance of one extra entry in 300? If it gets votes then it's a relevant entry. The fact that it's a slow derby suggests to me the more entries the better, especially since the entries this week are getting relatively low vote totals. And my entry this week clearly isn't going to printed so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

I'd like to speak up once and for all and say that I would just like to see good artists quit submitting here outright. Actually, can I include some others that aren't necessarily good artists but I'm tired of competing against? If it suits everyone, I'd really like for tgentry, jamescho84, JadenKale, SkekTek, mihalis aya, rglee129, sokowa, zenne, haxrox, eHalcyon, daedalusknight, FableFire, Failoan, redghia69, edgarrmcherly, geekfactor12, riffmaster18, RobGlenn, superspryte, kenney9226, Bryan818, Sachmoe64, dsladek, ansharp, Josephus, artulo, and wooterer to please quit entering because it isn't fair to those of us who want me to win. I realize that if they all quit entering I still wouldn't win, but I'll amend the list at that time. Thank you everyone for helping support this worthwhile cause. (sorry if I left anyone out)

Actually, everyone who submits clip art in their designs get crap, no matter who you are. I didn't give anyone any this week since I submitted a clip art based piece (and expected crap for it, which I received), but that has nothing to do with whether you are a "favorite" or not on that particular subject. The "favorites" with proven artistic ability will catch MUCH more crap for clip art than the average entrant 99.3% of the time.

In your case tg, I think this design is perfect for this derby because of the globe and the imaginary country. I definitely see your point here. Gigilo, heh. Certainly probably get less flak....

I really don't want to bring people into this that are not involved in this particular discussion, but not every clip art piece gets carp -- one is even still a hot seller. And, I wasn't referring to your piece. I am just asking for consistency.

I don't think I deserve to be on the list, but I am very much flattered. And bluchez, you've been in the top ten the last two derbies and are probably going to make top ten this week as well. It's only a matter of time.

On the whole resub issue... I joked in the cyberpub this week that I was disappointed by the resubs, but of course the real reason I didn't like seeing them was because they're such great designs that had already proven so popular that it makes my position in the fog that much more tenuous.

Seriously - both Cho's and tgentry's resubs deserve to be here. They were such near misses in the last derbies they were entered, and now they're here and improved. Cho redrew his entire design - the incredible amount of effort put into it is apparentt - and tgentry made some great additions to an already wonderful design.

Also, I don't think resubbing like this hurts the chances of HM and getting put into the do-over derby. Wasn't Zenne's Summertime entry a retooled resub?

@SaritaBeth - I hope your confidence isn't misplaced! Thank-you for the support.

@Mootsfox - Thanks!

@barabajagle - I know there are plenty of straight men who would be comfortable wearing "cute" stuff as well. I was targeting two demographics in this design, and I was aware that it was risky because I could end up alienating both sides. Hopefully the risk was worth it.

@judycallgirl - The dog just woke up.

@cheer4vols - the "translation" in the description isn't a real translation. The motto isn't a real Latin phrase - there actually isn't any meaning in it at all. The phrase is actually from a standard piece of filler text commonly used in typography. If you're interested, you can read a bit about it on Wikipedia.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
