Who cares? It's a t-shirt. If you're honestly going to buy a pixelated giraffe on a t-shirt, would you be the one to care of such things? I doubt it.

I love this shirt, great work.

I don't think it's a copyright issue in this case since the painting is pretty old, but it still is unoriginal artwork. That said I'd love to see Joe do a variation on the starry night that's obviously inspired by it, but not a direct copy. I think he could do it and it would probably still get a lot of votes. It's only Saturday and the voting seems really slow on this one, it could be fogged by the end of the day.

out of the 3 Joe's was the least like the original and definitely had the "inspired by" feel.

addendum: if you reference Joe's version to the original you'll see it definitely isn't a direct copy and has been altered considerably.

Maybe posting the original next to this version highlighting the differences might convince the powers of woot to reverse the rejection?...

Edit: after looking at the original I would highly recommend posting a comparison. That would really help your cause. I think I, like the rejectorators, -assumed- it was a line for line copy, but placement, scale, etc. is totally different.

Re: Wall Pixels

Thank you all so much for the wonderful feedback and compliments! I am glad that there has been such a good response to this shirt. It was inspired by my love for all things William Morris. WM was one of the artists who first got me interested in design when I was a kid. If you don't know his work, check it out.

Sincere thanks to atarango, klswoot, BSmooth357, chicnoir, goredbirds101, BumperK, ChrisRisse, ya2sabes, TAYLORT5 and trumpetgal!

I understand your criticism. My goal wasn't to copy any existing Wright stained glass or lightscreen. Just wanted his work to serve as inspiration for this piece, but still be uniquely my own design. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Phoebe. I'm thrilled to have been in the fog this long, but I'm getting that sinking feeling down in the gut that my stay will be short-lived. Haven't been in the hotness much since yesterday, so the nerves have hit.

But, it's still very exciting right now.

ya2sabes - Okay, amino acids are the building blocks and DNA is the blueprints. But, common knowledge is that life is made from DNA. So, you are right, but hopefully voters will get the concept and still like the design.

Re: Waffles!

Mmmmmm... waffles.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the plus and the equals sign have both been rejected in the past as "text" characters. Just about any character you can type on your keyboard counts as text in Woot's eyes.

Perhaps there is a way you can convey the same idea without using the plus and equals signs? I'm not quite sure how... maybe with some triangles that act as arrows? At any rate, good luck to you.

toe2254 wrote:now that you circled them i think it's just a matter of the pixels being missed when the artist was possibly changing the color of the tree. it's obviously a minor error and not an intentional 7th color (i can't even see the difference but this monitor is rather dark). if woot rejects this design because of such a minor error that's easily fixed they may incite a riot.

Hmm... I wasn't thinking about the squares that got circled there... I was thinking of the two squares in the far left panel at the bottom of the "blossoms." They seem to be a lighter gray than the rest of the gray boxes. But, as I said before, I think this is compression. If a non-compressed image could be posted that shows, clearly, what colors these pixels all are, I think that there would be no danger of rejection.

actually, i was too. but, like i said, if woot rejects this design because of such a minor error (which is clearly not intentional) there may be a riot. i understand the need for rejections since they don't screen entries like some other websites like DBH, but i would hope their sphincter isn't THAT puckered. OK, so I changed the color of the smaller shirt so you could actually see it, but, yes, I would like the shirt color itself to be the dark area.

Mmhmm, a lot of shirts these days are trying way to hard to be funny or bright and explosive. It's really good to see some design and art get back up on the fog, keep it up cheese.
