My interpretation would be that he's pandering to the voters by not only including a tree but also birds, both of which are very popular with the woot voters. I'd further hypoothesize that the lightning is a signal of hotness, and the asphalt color is a nod to the fog he hopes to enter.

Of course, I may have been staring at puckers for too long today, causing me to overanalyze the design. ;^)

It might be the quote marks or lots of periods that are messing up your pic - you may want to fix that (take them out of the title) and resubmit it.

Light blue is a great color. Besides, people complain about all shirt colors because there are so few to choose from. Just pick what you like best for the design that makes you happy.

This is my first submission, so I didn't know what to do to make a decent image so you all could see the detail.

No offense, but how many empty rolls of toilet paper designs need to I am an un-original person to come close to making the cut for people to stop submitting them? Nothing wrong with the artwork - and this is perhaps one of the better versions - it's just the concept. Obviously there are a few people who want a toilet paper roll on their chest though... so good luck.

The shirts I pick never win, but I'm hopeful this one at least beats out the bird silhouette.

APPARENTLY ALL OF THEM!!!!

I am not against birds on shirts... from woot alone I own Perched Among Blossoms and Nobody's Child... but both of those have distinctive design, true artistry... yknow the drill... something that makes me feel that I'm wearing a well thought out shirt. Which is why I love when woot bans things. I don't need bird silhouettes in the derby when woot can select the ones they truly want for dailies (and wooters can complain that dailies have different rules). There's nothing distinctive about these particular bird shirts except that Freebird has a shrunken head and the current one has a potential to be lost on the shirt (not to mention both are executed poorly).

The simple fact is that woot is getting less and less involved in the derby, and the sorts of things that find their way into the fog tell me they need to get more and more involved. When a design that isn't even sort of related to the theme and is almost exactly the sort of thing that is residing as the third bestselling shirt of the moment manages to fog anyway, it tells me that woot voters are not voting with brains.

Rglee, fat unicorn was so good I had to get one and make a female friend wear it.

Discobiscuits, good insight on the firebreath. It's the invisible fire that's so dangerous.

fablefire wrote:I realize you're probably limited in Gimp, but I would appreciate more commercial-looking linework (like you'd see in an actual forecast) instead of the jaggies.

The red text isn't working for me either. It's clashing a bit with the baby blue.

Thanks fable; it's good to hear professional critique. I don't have much natural artistic skill, so my own bar for visual pizazz might seem low, but my main objective is to get the idea across in a way that I'd gladly wear. The monster is supposed to look amateurishly jaggy, but the lack of overall smoothness is because of my untrained eye and the unfortunate hours spent on my other entry. And I'm told my color sense is nonexistent. I'd love to improve my skills, so please keep the advice coming. In the meantime, I'm afraid my entries might make real artists cringe for a while yet.

Oh! I hope I didn't come off like I was knocking the light blue. I'm not. One of my designs is on light blue this week. I forget that you can't see my eyes rolling (as they were when I wrote the first sentence--"I've just been notified that light blue is the new asphalt..."). Like I said, I love this design and I think it's under-appreciated and over-looked.

Thanks. :3

...and true... though I think we could probably come up with something a better that would get more than a "I am an un-original person" on 4chan. Internet PR isn't that tough. ;)

Hah! Isn't that the way of things... you spend all your time on an entry that tanks. >.<

Something else you might want to consider is purchasing a copy of photoshop with your winnings. It's been a really long time since I used gimp, or other free graphics software, but photoshop was a breeze compared to the freebies.
