Re: Tin: Old Skool

But that's the beauty of Shirt.Woot! Nothing is certain, and every day brings surprises. I don't mind uncertainty that much, and I usually like surprises (usually), so Woot's inconsistency doesn't bother me much. Guess I'm one of the few.

I'm betting Joel is keeping this as a last-minute reject, waiting until he has EVERYONE'S attention, then zapping it. That would be the most effective way to put across the message of "NO STAR WARS ALLOWED".

Then again, I could be wrong, and Joel's really okay with this one, for some obscure reason. It could place in the top 3, be printed, and lots o' Wooters would wear their "Old Skool" shirts with pride and happiness. BTW, if it makes it to being printed, I'll buy one as a gift, definitely. It's an excellent design!

ansharp wrote:Did you know that sulfur is a bright yellow crystal in its solid state, blood red as a liquid, and emits a blue flame when burned? Cool, huh?

This is a second version of a design that's been pulled. If you voted for the first one, I hope you like this one, too.

That is pretty cool! How clever of you to learn that, realize sulfur at any given time can be a primary colour, and adjust design accordingly. I really like this one. =)

Nothing is certain. And I like being surprised by their choice of derby themes, but not random rejections/no rejections thing. Who will want to put a lot of time in something that might be rejected for odd reasons. We come here to study and learn the rules so we can work within them. We are trying to work WITH woot. I didn't like the uncertainty of my fish when it passed 3 stages of rejections then got dumped right at the end, that never ever feels good. And I'm not the only one where this happened. And if Joel is indeed waiting until the last minute (theoretically) that's not an effective way to prove a point, that would be down-right malicious.

And the classic science class demo of a rose frozen in liquid nitrogen is considered to be off topic... I guess I should not have assumed that everyone would get the reference. I should have put a Dewar flask next to it with Warning: Liquid Nitrogen on the side or sumpin.

nah... you could have placed it IN the flask like a vase, freezing as it came out of the top.

Don't be discouraged. I was upset the first time I got rejected. Happily though, my average of rejections to viable entries and such is very low.

I would have voted for this one had it been allowed to keep the word bubble, but wearing this shirt around without the word bubble, people would just look at me like "What the f#*k?"

Re: Chlorine: Just A Little Too Much

Very nice,

However im a little hesitant to vote bc the markings under the waste look alot like a skirt and a melting carcass is one thing, but if its wearing a dress than its just too frightening for me.

LOVES IT!! Definitely my fav of the derby. The horse at the top is great, and that dragon is hilarious. I'll be disappointed if this doesn't get printed. Good luck!!

totally agreed sokowa.

designs have been rejected that have hinted at far less star wars than this design, so I am confused. I can understand (ish) not rejecting designs that aren't going to print, but this design has been rising in the ranks for a couple days.

I was very upset when your fish was rejected suddenly, and am having a hard time reconciling woot's rules and rejections with what really happens in the derbies. feh.

Very well drawn, rglee, just too close to the MGM tin man and C3PO for my vote. look forward to your design next week!

This is really well done, but I think Woot might run into some copyright problems with Lucasfilm in using the image of C3P0 if they print this shirt...

tgentry wrote:I agree on both counts. A) This is an awesome shirt and B) we should know where the line is drawn with Star Wars shirts. I was under the impression they were completely off limits, parody or not. This definitely falls under parody, but many that have been rejected before did too. If I decide to do a Star Wars parody next week will it get rejected or no? Let's face it, a good Star Wars related shirt (and this is a rare good one) is going to be hard to beat. It would be nice to know if it's now fair game.

Though I am not him and I can't say for sure, I think that he was merely wondering if woot has changed their minds regarding how strict they would be in enforcing the no Star Wars rules, like many others here. If they choose to throw those rules out the window (which would allow for the printing of this shirt) I think that would make a lot of woot fans (like myself) happy and they would certainly want to buy the shirts. But I think the designers would want to know the shirts wouldn't be rejected for Star Wars references before putting time and effort into them. I don't think people are mad that this shirt, which is well done and clever, is doing well. I just think many people are just asking for a re-clarification more-so than complaining. Though some might be, I don't know.

Jim!! Just saw your post in Jaden's design! (That's my brother!) We're on separate coasts and don't get to see each other nearly as much as I'd like, so it was funny to see a post from him. I knew he'd like your shirt even though we haven't even talked about it!

thanks for the vote despite the color. unfortunately Radium glows a specific color and i, being a stickler for accuracy as i am, diligently searched for and matched it. originally i did have a color that was probably more appealing to the masses and probably no one would have noticed.

still, i appreciate the vote!
