OK, everyone who voted needs to get a friend to vote. We need at least 52 to fog today, and at least 300 to be sure this prints. Hurry up!!!

indeed. This was so simplistically pretty that it should have remained... he could have spent more quality time on other entries.

A threadless shirt

I think I figured out the star wars issue... You can use copyrighted SW characters, but only if they are shown with their backs to the viewer. Apparently Mr. G. Lucas and his army of litigators cannot recognize them from the wrong-way-round.

Also, you can avert being sued by Lucas by standing very, very still (his vision's based on movement I'm told.)

This is an awesome shirt rglee, I hope it wins.

Great stuff, as always xzanthis. One suggestion, when i look closely at my monitor, it appears that there is quite a bit of detail on that there tin-manzilla. You might have been better served by using a slightly lighter hilight color over that reddish, this making the details easier to see. The way it is now they're not clear and muddied.

I didn't notice the remote control until you mentioned it. That should have been the focal point of the design, the idea seems immanently awesome to me.

I voted for this one as well, but, quite frankly, I liked the Grays better. It had more "punch".
In any case, as I have said before, I *LOVE* the design. Good luck!

agreed YettaNother.

Much as I love the detail work that tgentry has done, and much as I adore the other shirts I have that he has designed, I don't think I could wear this one. I know I couldn't wear a bomb shirt either. Maybe I'm too much of a softie pacifist. :P

I don't mind the bomb, but my Buddhist friend was offended. He said the picture is actually of Tara who's like a god of prosperity. Also that the green color makes it a variation that means enlightenment or something, so the bomb and calling her Shiva was "like spitting on a crucifix" to a Christian (his words).

I guess it doesn't matter if you're not Buddhist though. I'm not, and I'd wear it!

This shirt is one of the reasons I wish Woot printed the top 7 in the derby instead of all the random shirts. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't think I've ever bought one of the random shirts.

It just always seems that some of the best shirts don't quite make it.

Geez louise! I keep coming here and hoping this one is in the fog...so vote for this one people and make it happen!

This is so appropriate for Tim Burton's rendition of Alice in Wonderland in the works. With Depp as the Mad Hatter and all, I would proudly wear this one to the first showing.

Plus, I am a Disney and horror fanatic so the combination is evident in this very shirt. Again, I really want this shirt so I truly hope it gets printed.

What exactly about this is specific to Tara instead of Shiva? I'm curious because A) I'd hate to think I actually offended someone and B) All of the sculptures of both Shiva and Tara that I've seen all look very different from one another.

Here's a Shiva sculpture similar to the one I based this picture on.

And another one that's very similar that says it's a Tara sculpture.

Anyone know anything more about this? Can it be either/or or is someone mistaken?

sokowa wrote:Nothing is certain. And I like being surprised by their choice of derby themes, but not random rejections/no rejections thing. Who will want to put a lot of time in something that might be rejected for odd reasons. We come here to study and learn the rules so we can work within them. We are trying to work WITH woot. I didn't like the uncertainty of my fish when it passed 3 stages of rejections then got dumped right at the end, that never ever feels good. And I'm not the only one where this happened. And if Joel is indeed waiting until the last minute (theoretically) that's not an effective way to prove a point, that would be down-right malicious.

Believe me, I've had a malicious rejection. Whoever did the rejection (Joel, I'm assuming) said my shirt promoted fascism, of all things. I think he must have been on crack or drunk at the time. But yeah, I've felt that sting, so I know what you're talking about.

Maybe I don't take it so seriously now since I stopped submitting designs. FWIW, I hope you never get another rejection like the fish one. That was not nice. And I usually vote for your designs, because you usually submit good stuff.

But don't read too much into what I said, please. I'll go over what I said again: If this one gets rejected at the last minute like yours did, there won't really be any question as to why, and if it does, it's anybody's guess why they would leave it until the last minute, but they could. Since they've done it before, who knows what they'll decide to do?

I was stating a supposition as to what might happen, not saying "This is what WILL happen", and I said I don't get all upset about Woot's shenanigans anymore. I think it's okay for me to say that, don't you? I'm not saying how other people should feel, just how I feel.

EDIT: My apologies to rglee - sorry about the discussion here.

Re: Plutonium: Shiva's Plaything (v2)

After a bunch of Internet scouring I've found a lot more examples of Green Tara that look like this than Shiva. While this particular design may be associated with Shiva by some, it looks more often like Green Tara, and as uhhuhhuhhuh noted the association of an atomic bomb with enlightenment is not exactly what I was aiming for. With that in mind I'm going to email Joel to pull this. Thanks for all the support on it and thanks to uhhuhhuhhuh for pointing this out. I'd much rather pull it now than have it print and be the guy that completely got someone's religion wrong on a shirt.
