Awww. Thanks so much for buying my shirts! It doesn't look like it'll get re-fogged with the popularity of the ones currently in the fog (good set this week, in my opinion), so I'll consider to.

To all of you, thanks so much for the support over the week. It was a great experience for me to see people rooting for the design-- it was very heartening. And to all those who helped it hit the fog within half a day, a special thank you! That was amazing to watch.

ticklecricket wrote:Your equations are wrong. You are calculating the work it would take to lift those objects the distance. In order to calculate the amount of work it takes to press those buttons, you would need to measure the spring constant of the springs holding the buttons up.

THANK YOU. So glad I'm not the only one bothered by this.

Machanical Aptitude Test:

So far two of you are right... ;-)

Not my favorite shirt color either, but with the various gears in different shades of grey and black, details were lost on *most* of the shirt colors. After trying them all out, I had to decide on cream, light blue, or bright green as those were the three colors that allowed the most contrast for each of the gears in this design. Maybe if the shoe fits, a different gear design might make its way into a future derby with either darker or lighter gears only to let me choose a shirt color more to my (and apparently your) liking...

While I hope that it does get refogged, if it doesn't I really I love this design and think this would be an amazing shirt. It's incredible.

If you have any suggestions please do tell me, I would super appreciate it.

...and a detail picture, a bit compacted so it won't be giiiiiinormous.

Thanks, blammoed! I really can't believe the bees aren't doing better. I could see this design right up there in the fog. Maybe people are scared to wear yellow. Not me. I love yellow. And I can't stop looking at the phallic shadow now that someone pointed it out. Damn you!

A complete shame that this is in 4th place. It's the only entry in the top ten that I would actually buy. Keeping my fingers crossed for some 11th hour voting magic.

I like this character, but since this seems to be this zombie's 3rd derby, maybe you should retire him and try a different idea next time. Just my 2 cents...

He forgot to subtract the force created by the weight of the finger on the button.
The true force exerted by the person pressing the key would be
(Mass to Press)(G) = Force to Press
Force Exerted = (Force to Press) - (Avg mass of Finger)(G)
Energy Used = (Force Exerted)(Distance)

Hey where is the edit button! - stupid double post.
Anyway I almost forgot. Most keyboards are membrane based NOT switch based so they dont have springs. This means the force required to press the key is NOT constant along the whole distance which the key is pressed. It takes a LARGE force to overcome the initial structure of the membrane both physical shape (Remove a key to see this) and the force required to overcome the initial friction of the rubber polymer chains against each other. Really there should be a few differential equations up there.

“A Good Day”
Things could easily go hay-wire… hell could break loose… Pandora’s box opened… and people could always screw up big time. What happens at work isn’t always productive… sometimes it’s just !@#$. And the moment at which fecal matter hits the spinning blades of a ceiling fan, sometimes the best thing you could do is duck! The formula for “a good day”!

not really sure i'd really want a koi shirt to wear, but props to the artistry. my real problem is that the design seems almost like a prefab, or something you worked on before, and then tacked on a painter at the bottom to make a tenuous connection to the theme. kind of weird placement on the little dude too. a really nice design, albeit a little uninspired...
