Re: Urban Painter

I like the choice of the gray shirt. While others see the color as making it too muddy, I see it as showcasing the idea that the artist is "working" to cover a dull gray wall with something beautiful.

Nice design. I'd like even more if the copy read "Pyramid Scheme" or "Original Pyramid Scheme".

klswoot wrote:Thanks for the votes on this one. A lot of great designs were posted last night. Looks like another great week for derby shirts!

KLS - I love your style - and you have my vote on this design - I think some people do not vote for designs such as these because they are overwhelming. My criteria is the following:

1) Is it great art?
2) Is it on theme (and within the rules)?
3) Is it in good taste?
4) Is it an original idea?
5) Would I wear it?

Additionally:

1) Will I buy it if it wins?
2) Did I get a chuckle out of the design? (This may help overcome a shortcoming in the key factors, but not always.)

You usually meet all of the criteria listed above.

Re: Job Selection

great job Adder! i don't get the game reference because I'm not a gamer, but my dad was a fireman for 30+ years, so it gets my vote for that and because i just like it.

on a side note my wife read me the comment that was made yesterday by someone who shall remain nameless.. i see it has been removed (as it should be) but it really angered me on a personal level. respectability has nothing to do with your education or how much money you make. it's about your strength of character. though you and i don't always see eye to eye you have my respect, and that's not easily done. best of luck!

Thanks blammoed! I love your bee shirt - lots of detail and great expressions on the poor little worker bee's faces!

Re: Urban Painter

I'm still on the fence about relation to the theme. I think my biggest problem with it is all anyone has to do is take a design that's totally unrelated to the derby, stick a tiny little painter painting it, and presto, it's about "work". No one looking at it would ever think it was work related unless they were given the full cover story. Have a picture of a sunbathing moose lying around? Just have a little one inch guy painting it and submit. It's not very fair to anyone who did an actual design pertaining to the theme. This is for daily subs or until a derby comes around that's it's on topic for. Since Kduece seems pretty popular it probably won't be rejected, and it will make a good shirt that will sell out, so it's probably a moot point discussing it.

On a side note this made me think of the time at Kings Island amusement park when they had the cartoon character "Jabber Jaws" walking around. They had to make the costume look like this guy so he could walk. Anyone remember Jabber jaws?

Oh my gosh - I love 70's cartoons - I can't believe they made an entire cartoon about that silly shark!

ticklecricket wrote:Your equations are wrong. You are calculating the work it would take to lift those objects the distance. In order to calculate the amount of work it takes to press those buttons, you would need to measure the spring constant of the springs holding the buttons up.

Those arrows aren't force, they're the weight it takes to overcome the springs on the mouse click and keyboard. g is grams, not gravity. If we're working on earth, we can assume 9.81 N/kg. So I'm pretty sure the work calculations are correct, unless we want to get into overcoming the initial static friction.
