Re: Clip Art

I used so much clip art in this piece I had to restart Illustrator 5 times. This thing is full of clip art. Tons and tons of royalty free pieces assembled by me. You may see some familiar images in this work from this derby and others. That's because I got them from the same place they did. The only difference, for the most part, is I'm stating that ALL of this is clip art in my original post -- something everyone should do. I've modified parts of graphics in this piece but none of it is mine and none of it is original.

Be up front about using clip art. That's all I ask.

Just the facts Jack.

I wonder if Woot can print this? Hopefully this doesn't get rejected because it is unprintable...that's a lot of super close colors.

I like it with the extra flies, but somehow I still struggle with the "t". I don't have any suggestions for that, though, and it would get my (re)vote if you resubbed with more flies.

Wonderful illustration. I especially like the ink shadow scribbles in addition to what everyone else has said. I'll be looking for this one come purchase time.

I'm gonna agree with you. It's cool, but I don't think there's anything "art as text" in the letters. They're just text.

Not sure if you're aware, but the beLIEve concept was already done on a Marilyn Manson tee. I think it's different enough, though, that it should be fine. Cool design!

Why?

I tend not to use clip art all that often, But I have. I can't draw. Is there a rule somewhere that you must be able to draw to submit? Assembling clip art and vector graphics into something original seems like a legitimate way to make a shirt design to me.

You've displayed that fact with this submission. It looks great and it fits with the derby theme and it uses no copyrighted material without permission. What's wrong with that? I see no need for full disclosure on source material.

That's my $0.02

Simply put, people buy shirts from Woot to get something new and original. If not, they'd be spending all of their money at Anchor Blue, Hot Topic and Target. I would hate to think someone would buy a shirt that they THOUGHT was an original work only to find out later it was simply assembled clip art. If they buy it knowing it's clip art, then I don't see any problem. That's why I'd like to see people be up front about the use of it instead of trying to pass it off as their original work.

Just the facts Jack.

Re: woot poop

Woot usually rejects shirts that have a woot reference. You have the argument that the word is frequently used outside of this website, which it is, but I guess it depends on the rejectorator.
