Re: Inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar

I think this is one of the best you've done so far. The little details, textures, and colors all work together. It's fun to see you're improving so ridiculously on these designs. I better start practicing more ;)

Very pretty, ramyb !

Would you consider reversing the water flows? I think the wider part of the water stream would look better at the top, that way it would look more like a natural waterfall flow.
Plus, the way it sits now, it seems really bottom heavy on the design.

Otherwise, it's gorgeous!!!

Might want to resubmit to include "Inspired by" in the title. Not sure how strict they're going to be this week about that.

Love the book, and love the colors. Wish you would ease up on the reins with how much stuff you throw in there. It's so hard to tell what's going on in a lot of your designs. Still a pretty cool looking design.

I actually like it the way it is now. Reversing the flow would make it top heavy, and I think bottom heavy is preferable. Also, I think the downward (upward?) flow adds a touch of whimsy. It's visually very interesting to me.

female wrote:You don't need puns in an entry to have a thoughtful design. There's been dozens more "women with hair flowing into things" entries than actual zombie or pirate entries and yet no one complains about them. To me it's another meme that doesn't require much creativity, just plug in a different thing for the hair to morph into. Sure they are pretty, but to me it's also very faux-soulful, in that it's supposed to appear profound and moving but there's not much actually behind it other than the hair turns into something. You did an ok job of doing it, although the bottom part of the design is pretty all over the place. I just think the meme is wearing thin.

Well, to be honest, I don't draw things with regards to whether or not people have done similar things in the past. I draw things because of what I like to draw, and there was something that appealed to me about this idea. It's not supposed to be soulful, it IS supposed to be pretty, I like pretty shirts, and I don't go around showing people my shirt and asking them what the meaning is behind it.

That said, I feel like hair flowy things isn't really an overdone category on woot. I can only think of one hair flowy entry that I've ever seen, and it looks completely different from this.

Thanks, Dekon. And you don't need to improve TOO much, I want to still have a chance here. Your stuff is always some of the best.

Thanks everyone for the great comments so far. They always make me happy.

And here's a bigger version, if anyone wants to see the detail of the houses and whatnot:

The design is gone, and the wind with it!

"This is a painting of a cow eating grass"
"Where is the grass?"
"The cow ate it"
"Where is the cow?"
"He left when he ran out of grass"

Perhaps I shouldn't be so specific with hair and just say women in general flowing into things. Hair just seems to be the recent trend. By all means, do whatever you feel like you have to as far as your art's concerned.

Re: Detective Noir Inspired by Moby *Whale*

The titular character of Herman Melville's famous novel shares a part of his name with 40's slang for a detective. Thus, my entry this week.

/Woot censors the name, hence the song and dance around saying it
