I love this shirt. It is so crisp and neat. Great for the season we are in. I also loved the book. Wish more people would vote for it.

Re: Inspired By Green Eggs And Ham

The eggs look more like droppings to me. Maybe it is because of their placement near the pig's rear.

Riff, ignore the previous comment.

I was immediately taken by this design. It's a keeper.

Re: Inspired By: Flowers in the Attic

Flowers look very nice, but I feel like the flowers are either too big, or the window is too small, or is it a mouse hole?

Maybe my lack of knowledge of the book is a downfall here.

Re: Inspired by the Call of the Wild

Oooooohhh pleaseplease win! Vote for this! It has been a bit since one of the shirts I loved won (Pirate Recycling was so close!) but this is beautiful and I can think of three people off the top of my head who I would give it to. I'd have to buy three the first day, and come back again and buy more later.

Would have subbed this yesterday but it wouldn't go through after multiple tries. Then I finally realized it was most likely cause of the large PSD file size. D'oh!

Just dorky enough to start meaningless conversations about both the book and the recent movies.

Love the concept. I like the art - that dragon is spectacular and the kid reminds me a little bit of Edgar. I think the octopus creature is out of place since the others are all mythological, though I may be forgetting a cycloptic tentacle monster from some obscure myth. The colour palette doesn't do it for me though.

We have a winner! Seriously, how can any self respecting artist not vote for this shirt. We've all seen and or read these books.

Plus the rabbit drawing another rabbit is GOLD!

Re: Inspired by How to Draw 101 Animals

I LOVE this! it does need the big pencil at the start, otherwise it wouldn't have the proper continuity. and i love that the rabbit is left-handed, as i am. I'd buy this as a shirt, a print, or especially a coffee mug. oh, why doesn't woot sell coffee mugs????

This is WONDERFUL!! Everything... the pencil... the drawing rabbit... even the shadowing from the pencil and the detail and expression on the finished rabbit...

There is nothing about this NOT to love!!

I sure hope this *DOES* win. I do think it has a chance, a good one, and I will buy this for sure - my kids will both want one each, too!

I think this is beautifully drawn, and I LOVE the witch, but I don't really get it. There's a witch. Check. And a Lion. Ok. The lion is... eating a frog...? Wearing a Hello Kitty mask...? And the Wardrobe is.... um, where is the wardrobe?

I'm afraid "1" counts as text, and this is a no-text derby. I like the style though.

ROFL. Come on people, it *IS* amusing!

Ok, constructive criticism:
I personally like the colors. They are bright and they pop.
Within the context of this derby, this works. It fits the theme - It is a huckleberry (um, I am ASSUMING it is one, looks a little like a purple blueberry, and since I have never seen an actual huckleberry, I'll take your word on it), and it has fins.
It is amusing: one would not normally see fins on a fruit. This type of off-the-wall dichotomy is exactly at home here.
However:
Outside of the context of the derby, it just looks odd. That's why you are not getting votes. People wont want to wear a shirt that people will just look at and scratch their heads - unless, perhaps, it has a REALLY good backstory, just awaiting an unsuspecting questioner.
One other thing: Your shirt detail. That is the image that shows up on the main page. While this has to match the design itself, it can be only a PIECE of the design. Or have a small amount of text that wont appear on the shirt, such as CLICK ME. Whatever it is, it has to get people to want to click on it and see the full entry.
No clicks = no votes.

I hope I helped.
Good luck!!

It's following the novel.
Just like McMurphy was electroshock therapied when he didn't follow directions, this bird is electrocuted when he sang the wrong note.
I like it.

Hmm, Frodo looks like he is being crucified....

BTW, Lord of the Rings is not a book title. It is the name of the Trilogy.
1. The Fellowship of the Ring
2. The Two Towers
3. The Return of the King.

Re: Inspired by: Where the Sidewalk Ends

Actually, I liked it BETTER when I thought that basically the world - not just the sidewalk ended there, and his arm WAS amputated.

It gave the design a very Stephen King / Twilight Zone type of feel. :D

tgentry wrote:Thanks for all the comments! Strangely enough I woke up with this design in my head, looking pretty much as it is now.

jezebeth: I agree the big pencil probably doesn't need to be in there for the design to work, but I wanted a bit of color so it wouldn't be just creme and brown. This seemed like a good way to brighten it up a bit.

I would have liked to see the pencil in creme and sepia too, to imagine that there's another giant rabbit drawing the rabbit.

Great design though!

I loved this book! Wasn't crazy about the animated movie that was made from it, however.

But this shirt - is fantastic!!
I love it. I love unicorns, and this has lots of them... AND the amusement factor... AND a good chance that anyone who has ever before heard of the book will realize the design for what it is, outside the context of the derby.

I don't know why it is not getting more votes!! Perhaps the detail image. I really hope this suddenly gets up there; I would LOVE to buy this one!!!

The octopus creature is supposed to be a Kraken. There's lots of different variations of it from a giant squid to a cycloptic octopus to sea monsters with giant mouths full of sharp teeth.

I was contemplating whether to submit this on Cream/tan. It looked a little better with the colors and I probably should have gone with that. I'll see.
