Re: Inspired by Call of the Wild
I would wear this in a heartbeat. I wish this were getting more attention, because truly it deserves it. The comedy (and style) of this piece is just great. When I initially saw just the wolf in the thumbnail I had no idea what else to expect when I clicked...and then I got a telephone (and a nice belly laugh).
I don't know what happened to the lemon color when I exported; It shows up much more vibrantly on my display.
Re: Inspired by Catcher in the Rye
the change is the color is a little different I do like this color a wee bit better, but I would not of re-subbed for the unnoticeable change..you lost some ground by doing so
Re: Inspired by How to Draw 101 Animals
I remember the first time seeing one of these drawing books. I followed all the steps in pen, and at the final step wondered, "Hey, why does their final drawing not have all the lines they just made me draw"? My prediction that this would fog came true. Congrats, and I hope it prints!
toe2254 wrote:actually this version of the design was never for sale. it's a revised version of a design that was for sale (it never sold though) in my shop. still, it's no biggie because it obviously wasn't going to win and in 60 days i may put this version in the shop if anyone really wants it.
Yeah, I'm just letting you know again that I really want this shirt.
dirtdirt wrote:My design has absolutely nothing to do with the contents of the book 1984, only the tile.
I can see why you'd say that, but the shirt really does reflect well themes from the book as well
I was going to come on here and comment that while this is a cool concept and executed quite well, I was disappointed that it had gotten fogged as I didn't like the large pencil (I think the folks saying it needs to match and hint at a giant rabbit) and probably wouldn't buy it, and it was making it harder for my favorite design to get in. And I was trying to come up with a way to say that without coming off as a whiner, and then I noticed you made Wrinkle in Time too. Go figure :p
If it's on an American Apparel shirt I'd probably be interested too
This is the first shirt I am ever commenting on and I must say I feel this shirt was very elegantly designed. I love the idea of the rabbit drawing more rabbits and I truly love how you managed to have the final product of the rabbit look nothing like the step before it, somehow it magically became a perfect rendition of a rabbit! They used to do it all the time in those books and it would make me so upset! Heh... I think you captured the idea behind the book perfectly and once again flawlessly executed an exquisite T-shirt design! I love big words they make me seem so edumacted! Hurray for edumacation! =P
Re: Inspired By The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
I think gizmo's criticism is a far cry from being negative. I voted for the shirt, but I'm not sure I could buy it because there isn't a whole lot going for it, even if I love the style.
Re: Inspired by A Wrinkle in Time
This needs to be back in the fog because I want to buy it so hard.
Re: Inspired by Harry Potter
I like the style, appreciate the pun (although I instantly groaned when the topic was announced because I knew this title would be done), and it has my vote, but I really, REALLY want a couple of other shirts to make it to the top 3.
Re: Inspired by Round the Moon
Totally didn't see the giraffe until I read the thread. Now I really, REALLY want the shirt.
giraffe? Is that a giraffe's head/neck coming out of the water he's standing on to paint the moon? (sorry, sometimes I'm quite dense).
wils9745 wrote:Judging from all the artifacts in your image it just looks like you made it too small. You should be using vector images for this kind of thing before rasterizing so you can scale it without losing resolution. It seems a big aspect of competitions is in understanding the rules to submit a proper entry. Maybe you just need some more time before submitting another entry to practice.
Well, thank you. As I said I'm not a geek, so artifacts, vectors and rastersing leaves me speachless, I'm using Adobe Photoshop and none of these words are available on the screens. But once again thanks, you surprised me by responding.

Reminds me of the Bunny Suicide art style

Nice! 2 more things... the thing on the top left part of the board, and the map on the table (if you can guess where the map is from I'll give you a million dollars ;)).
Re: Inspired by The Giver
This needs to skyrocket up. It's amazing!

Ocarina of Time, but unsure of the tune. As for the map, it looks familiar, but it's hard to judge.
bitz wrote:Very nice, the water pattern is well pulled off, still has a little bit of "live trace" feel to it in areas where it could be more organic or fluid, but nice job! Oh and how the heck did you get pictures of water to look like a horse?
Thanks. It's a bit tricky trying to go from essentially a photochopped texture through a trace mechanism without ending up with some of that "live-traced" feel. This summer I was in a kiddie pool with my 3 yr old on vacation, and while he played in the water, I took about 10 photos of the reflection patterns, (to use in a planned shark design) and kept them for future uses like this. To make the water look like a horse, you make a sketch of how the horse out to look, in kind of a really basic shape, like about stage 3 of tgentry's "how to draw 101 horses". Then you look at your water textures for bits that look about like each particular detail, i.e., a nostril, and you just start placing them together, over your sketch, with careful transparency application, and a bit of the liquefy tool, until the horse comes out. The more of a large piece you can use at once, the better; most of the mane was a single piece of one picture. Then I adjusted the hue until it matched the royal blue shirt color so that I could seamlessly insert it on the shirt after I traced and smoothed it.

This looks great! Really good concept.
This is just wonderful.

Yes, if you see the tshirt from far away, you will prominently see the giraffe. When you come closer, then you can see the painter
Yup, it's a Zelda song. But which is it...?
Here's a close up of the map: Hint: Are you looking at the map upside-down, or right-side-up? It depends on where you are in the game... ;)
Re: Inspired by The Spirit
aww man, t was rejected But, t was rejected because similr shirts are available elsewhere,,,,,where?
Darquis wrote:If it's on an American Apparel shirt I'd probably be interested too
watch the banner ad in my signature for "book titles". thanks!
I'd like it better if it was less linear, though I know that's kinda the point. Still GMV but consider restructuring it to submit for a daily - it's really cute!
Love the design.... would love the shirt even more if it wasn't yellow got my vote though!
Darquis wrote:I can see why you'd say that, but the shirt really does reflect well themes from the book as well
You know, upon reflection, I think your'e right. Both thematically (struggle all you like but you will eventually be beaten) and literally (Winston at the end, a broken old man, drinking greasy gin and loving BB). Neat! Of course, that doesn't get it any votes! Heh...
Very, very nice piece of work. It did remind me of Twilight Princess as well. I like that I can sit and stare at it a while as there are just enough different things that flow in this for me. Thank you!
THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT! I appreciate all comments. I know it feels slightly off with the placement, but i couldn't figure out a good way to make it flow.
Chessiesmom wrote:I love this shirt. It is so crisp and neat. Great for the season we are in. I also loved the book. Wish more people would vote for it.
Thanks for the kind words. :c)
Looks amazing! I would totally wear this.
my favorite shirt comp :D
Re: The Wind in the Willows inspired this
Gaddfly wrote:I am 'tarded and stoopid.
Yes, Gaddfly. Admitting it is the first step! As to who would actually wear this shirt? I can't tell you how much I hope this wins. As a potter (that would be the "mud") I really hope to "buy one" especially since I got another potter for my "Secret Santa" so, I may have to buy two.
I LOOOOVE THIS! I can't wait to wear this.
Love the shirt!
This is one of my favorites this week.
Patchitect wrote:I find your interest in the contents of my pants disturbing, and a little inappropriate. Not to mention the difficulty of designing a shirt that would point each wearer in the direction of my pants, like a X-rated compass.
