If this does not end up in the fog (prolly won't with the time left) it had better get picked up by the honorable mention.... this is one of the best executed, clean, well placed illy in this competition. You had my vote at hello...

wils9745 wrote:Maybe your concern should lie with being taken as 'condescending' rather than being defensive.

Many artists learn the most from negative comments and weigh them as ultimately constructive with their future projects. Given that prior to my post was nothing but a wasteland of acceptance and adoration I felt I would offer my own opinion as well, even if it wasn't in the majority. Now that "Travis" has explained his concept at least four times now (though it *clearly* warrants no explanation whatsoever), I guess I sort of get it. Its well done but not particularly clever, nor required significant skill in the execution. If I'm so obviously in the minority opinion none of this even matters so I don't understand why so many of your minions are so quick to label ME when I'M only offering my OWN thoughts about YOUR design.

You put your work on display for a competition like everyone else and should therefore expect (and respect) all levels of compliments - not just the ones with people dying to speak your praises.

You're a piece of sub-human garbage and your writing stinks. Wow, I guess you should _expect_ all levels of compliments and will therefore use my comments as a means to grow and become a better hater.

Your comments were _not_ constructive. You called the guy lazy, you accused him of using clipart and you criticized the concept of the shirt b/c you're the only one godawful stupid enough to not realize what it means.

Also, why the hell do you keep putting his name in quotation marks and why are you such an unrelenting richard noggin?

I hope this wins, because it's one of the few that I would actually buy.
That and these two.

I just wanted to congratulate you on becomming Cho. This honor has now officially been bestowed upon you by the woot mob class, and you may now enter into the secret realms of the ruling class. Please use your power carefully, as posting pictures of Eric Estrada will get even you probated still. Enjoy your monarchy and don't let it make you a diva.

precisely the same, and it will get worse.
cho is actually a decent guy, but has far less patience.
these guys even did a collaboration under the name chogentry way back when...
cho keeps saying he will return, but i cant see why he would want to.
not that he was the only phenominal artist that the woot mob has chased away.
not hardly.

Didn't Cho do a shirt like two weeks ago? Why are people saying he left?

he used to do 3 or 4 a week. he used to win nearly every week as well. sometimes more than one place. one time he nearly swept all four places in the fog...

Re: Inspired by How to Draw 101 Animals

I just read all the comments on this design. I'm not sure why I did it, but now I'm exhausted. I'll sum up so no one else has to go through the pains of reading it all like I did:

This is a really clever and well executed design.
Some people don't think so.
Some other people don't like people saying they don't think so.
The yellow pencil may have been a bad choice.
Some people are bad at typing.
Some people would have liked a big bunny illusion.
The big bunny illusion was not the designer's intent.
Left handed people rule.
The pencil is not clip art.

There. And for what it's worth, I love this design, "Travis." It has a really strong idea driving it and it's executed really well. But I think the pencil should have been blue. It's what all REAL artists use. Yellow pencils are for the hacks.

I like the style but it's too boring and cute for me. I love the books so much! Anyways good job but maybe next time try something different? Oh and dont vote for a flippin shirt if your not going to buy it, it just makes it harder for the people that are actually voting to get a shirt.. get a shirt!

I never said that the quote would describe the hand. It does say that on the back (front? I havnt read the book in awhile) of the guide that there is a hand with a thumb sticking up.

Masque of the Red Death is a short story, not a book. Oh and I think she would look even more deadly if she had red eyes or a line of blood coming out of her mouth.

Yeah well he uses too much! I like the Eragon/Redwall series and they have just enough of everything! (especially Redwall!!!!) I also couldn't get hooked on the book, or the characters.

Depends which side of the road you drive on.

And so far as this image being on the guide itself:

"The contents of Ford Prefect's satchel were quite interesting in fact and would have made any Earth physicist's eyes pop out of his head, which is why he always concealed them by keeping a couple of dog-eared scripts for plays he pretended he was auditioning for stuffed in the top. Besides the Sub-Etha Sens-O-Matic and the scripts he had an Electronic Thumb — a short squat black rod, smooth and matt with a couple of flat switches and dials at one end; he also had a device which looked rather like a largish electronic calculator. This had about a hundred tiny flat press buttons and a screen about four inches square on which any one of a million "pages" could be summoned at a moment's notice. It looked insanely complicated, and this was one of the reasons why the snug plastic cover it fitted into had the words Don't Panic printed on it in large friendly letters."

Wow! this turn into a big war about pretty much nothing. Here's why-

1) The pencil is not clip art ( those who know how fast Gentry work understands this, he can slap something way more complex in no time)
2) Why take the time to analyze every little detail of the work? Is it that serious? At a glance the majority gets it. If anything it causes the shirt to become more interesting for conversation sake like it did here ( the uproar geez).
3) Why defend? or fight for your honor.. or whatever you wanna call it! We all know as artist, We don't take criticsm as well as we say we do ( be honest with yourself, really it's ok). To me it seemed like you we're making thing worse by doing this(TGentry).
4) Finally, don't get discouraged or too upset at what some may say about your art. Post a brief response and be done with it. I sure wish I could get all this attention. Unfortunately I can't even seem to get the resolution right on my submissions. If I was you I would arrogantly ignore all post from the hatters and keep winning derbies.

Thank you. My original concept for the shirt was actually a lot less cute. It involved a very hairy lion and a gross-looking old hag. I just couldn't get it to work the way I wanted.

I'm also a huge fan of the books, Although The Horse and His Boy was by far my favorite. That would have made a cool shirt for this too. Why didn't I think of that before?
