And so far as this image being on the guide itself:

"The contents of Ford Prefect's satchel were quite interesting in fact and would have made any Earth physicist's eyes pop out of his head, which is why he always concealed them by keeping a couple of dog-eared scripts for plays he pretended he was auditioning for stuffed in the top. Besides the Sub-Etha Sens-O-Matic and the scripts he had an Electronic Thumb — a short squat black rod, smooth and matt with a couple of flat switches and dials at one end; he also had a device which looked rather like a largish electronic calculator. This had about a hundred tiny flat press buttons and a screen about four inches square on which any one of a million "pages" could be summoned at a moment's notice. It looked insanely complicated, and this was one of the reasons why the snug plastic cover it fitted into had the words Don't Panic printed on it in large friendly letters."

whew you just saved me a butt load of time trying to find that, thanks!

The book's full title is "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark", by Carl Sagan. If you haven't read it, read it now. It's perspective changing and life-altering.

Ahh, but it's just a device, not an actual thumb.

And wait, is something missing there? I thought "Don't Panic" was on the guide and not the Electronic Thumb...

yes thats his name.
but if i were you i would stick with screen names since its a little informal for one to call someone by their name if they never told it to you.

You miss read it. It describes the electronic thumb, and then moves on to describe the "calculator", which is the guide. All it has on it are buttons, a screen, and the words Don't Panic. No thumb. No picture of any sort.

Your comments were _not_ constructive. You called the guy lazy, you accused him of using clipart and you criticized the concept of the shirt b/c you're the only one godawful stupid enough to not realize what it means.

Also, why the hell do you keep putting his name in quotation marks and why are you such an unrelenting richard noggin?

theres a difference between constructive criticism and hate mongering. im afraid what Vik had to say was the latter. theres no room for remarks such as that in a forum that is supposed to encourage artistic growth whether through praise or disagreement. obviously there are a lot of people that like this design and obviously there are a lot of people that dont like the design - and for the purpose of expressing that is reason alone for why these boards are here, not to call names and hate speech to the people that dont think the same as you.

Re: Inspired by The Curious Incident of the Dog in...

This shirt is inspired by the novel titled, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time," by Mark Haddon. (The full title was too long to fit in the file name.) I really enjoyed this book. Of course, if you've read this book, you know that my tshirt re-interpretation is much different from the book storyline. Although the novel is not mainly about a dog, the book does have a dog that was involved with a curious incident. However, the dog is a standard black poodle and the incident is...; well much different and you'll have to read the book if you're interested in finding out. :c)

COMMENTS APPRECIATED

Light Green (Pantone 356 C)

Brown (Pantone Black 4 C)
Blue (Pantone Reflex Blue 4 C)

Ah, you're right, I missed the semi-colon.

But yes, the Electronic Thumb is only described as "a short squat black rod, smooth and matt with a couple of flat switches and dials at one end", so there isn't an actual thumb in the book. Therefore this design definitely qualifies as reinterpretation.

Re: Inspired by The Curious Incident of the Dog in...

Haven't read it, but it's about autism, isn't it? It was one of the choices we had for our grade 11 English class (our teacher let us choose). Ultimately, we ended up working on "The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of The Oxford English Dictionary".

Re: the design, I think the drawing aspect is very clever, though I wish it was a bit more clear. I think the halftone would have better been replaced by a clean cartoony action line or two (like a "swish"). I also think that the dog and the tree should have been drawn in a similar style, but overall this is very neat.

Re: Inspired by One Fish, Two Fish

while i agree that the fish theme of shirts is one that wont seem to die, this one has my vote and probably my buy cause 1. i didnt buy any of the previous fish shirts and 2. its the absolute only shirt in this derby that is worth it (not that there aren't other clever, cute, and artful designs, but they dont make for very good shirts IMO)

Yes the main character has Asperger syndrome, which is in the autism spectrum. The book is a very easy and good read.

Thank you very much for the comments on the drawing. I have only been drawing digitally since this summer and I greatly appreciate the comments.

The first paragraph I wrote was supposed to be ironic; I realize now that it was almost impossible to pick up on it over an internet forum without facial expressions to go by, so I don't blame anyone for not seeing it, but that's what I was doing. I was throwing his tack back in his face, the "oh, well you should take any and all criticism as a way to improve yourself". Some criticism _is_ worthless, and I was demonstrating that. There's nothing "constructive" about calling someone garbage, just as there's nothing constructive about calling a known, hard-working designer lazy.

Even if I weren't being ironic, though, hate speech? Seriously? Hate speech is what leads to violence. George Wallace spewed hate speech, Hitler spewed hate speech. I was calling out someone for being a jerkface on the internet: Let's keep things in perspective. I was even silly at the end. There was no woot filter for the last insult I said, and when I realized that I created my own ("richard noggin").

The irony of it all is that I haven't even voted for the shirt. It's clever, and I like the idea behind it, but I wouldn't wear it myself.

Re: Inspired By The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

I like the style, but am not a fan of the paint brush effect (could have the same effect without the missing parts, looks like they were scrapped off almost) and the absolutely not a fan of the shirt.

The style, whoever, is very appealing. I also thought you said the "Lion is not Aisian" (instead of Aslan) earlier, I thought that was kinda racist since it was out of the blue!

Line Art, he had Why Can't I Fly, Sashimi Hunters, and Spring Rebirth all in the fog for a good portion of the week. Sashimi ended up falling to 7th, but he printed twice with the ties.

Also in Motion, he won first, and had 4th and 5th as well... an extra three votes on either other design would have printed him twice, either in third or as a tie.

The real irony is we've been discussing his shirt design, not the designer's personality or work ethic. The design is lazy - not the designer.

Really?

If you want to apologize to him, that's great, and I'd commend you for it, but just backpedaling on what you said is weak. You weren't calling the design lazy, you were calling the designer lazy.
