tgentry wrote:I was trying to hint at the colors and style of a scientific illustration you might see in a textbook from the 50's or older. With a tiny bit of text I think I could have pulled off that scientific diagram feel a little better. The idea is just that the Dodo is skipping through history with a blind optimism, unaware that the humans path just veered right in front of it. I played with different colors, but in the end I just liked the soft blue. I think it's a color from that time and looks nice with creme. But colors are a subjective thing I guess.

I really do have a great deal of respect for your thought process. I may not vote for every shirt you put out there, but I look forward to seeing what you come up with every week.

At quick glance I lost myself in your art and details and didn't really give much thought to the message your trying to convey but when I stumbled on this post, I had to take a 2nd look. Brilliant.

Re: Things are looking up...

ARG. I had this exact same idea. The only reason I didn't do it was I didn't think I could break past the top designs; I thought I could hold onto the idea for a future endeavour.

Props to you though. I like your Things far more than the Things I sketched.

My only real critique - I think they should be smiling. They're looking up, after all. My sketched idea had a bunch of Things (all different) smiling or grinning or something. One was looking down, and sad. XP

Cool idea. I think it would have worked better with the bottom part alone.

I have to be honest here but I find nothing appealing about the art. With the title, it honestly made me laugh out loud.

I thought that at first too...but you can't look at it as a glass half full/half empty. It's really a happy meter. The higher the blue, the happier!

I wonder if he sat down, because his blood sugar was low. "Hey, Lollipops!" j/k

I'd say, possibly your best design yet! Got me some new wallpaper. ..and I'll buy three, just in case I spill something on one of them.

Let me sum up the comments so far:

Lemon is the new Asphalt.
People love this design.
Some people are happy to see real art on woot.
Some people didn't recognize your style.
Some people DID recognize your style.
More people love this design.
Some people are surprised how good this design is.
No one dislikes this design.
some people now have this design as their wallpaper.
The word is out... Lemon IS the new Asphalt
One person isn't "optimistic" about her design winning.
This design reminds different people of different things.
Even more people love this design.

Re: I hope they pick me soon

An optimist is someone who can always see the bright side of a situation, and expects the best possible outcome. But sometimes even an optimist has to hope that that best possible will come sooner rather than later.

This is one of the best shirts ever thought of on shirt.woot. If they don't print a million of these it will be travesty.

And now I know that all my designs will have at least one vote. That's what best friends DO, right Mary? Vote for each other's designs. Yes. That's what they do!

And wow to everyone else. I woke up this morning (begrudgingly) and saw all these great comments. I'm so appreciative. Really. My morning has been made good now. I'm so glad you all really like it.

I agree with Keelmy - it's a very cool idea but the more simple the better - makes a better impact perhapa - but it's an inspiring concept nonetheless! Kudos and GMV if revised....

We're all going to die, but that's a minor detail. Try not to think about it.

Does anyone have advice on producing smoother lines? I sketch, scan, and then trace over my sketch in photoshop w/the pencil tool (I started using the pencil tool because I was worried about the pen tool producing extra shades of my color) - I get the distinct impression there is a much better way.
