There are probably more, but one I remember (that was not printed) was Cho's Ice Cream Truck design from the summer derby. And I suppose his Iced Tea design in the same derby might count as well, sort of.

Also, if this shirt gets rejected, many other people get another shirt that they want, and someone else gets 1000 dollars - all thanks to him! I think that balances out just fine.

Re: Mayflower Mayhem

Really, I don't think this is a big deal right now. First of all, I definitely don't harbor any hard feelings towards Turbo for pointing this out, it's only fair, and now it's up to woot to decide. But more importantly, there are a very large number of shirts that are doing much better than this one right now that are all in contention, so the chances of this printing even in the case of no rejection are not particularly high, so rejection vs. no rejection probably won't have a big impact on the contest as a whole anyway

you might want to re-sub so the color of the shirt is only one color. might get booted due to either to many colors or not printable.

Thank you, AlphaB.

There is a lot tied up in this. And I said very plainly in my opening comment that I was going for full-bore controversy. I had issues of choice, of womens' position within Christianity and indeed the implications of what science does to religious canon and mythology in mind. And a history without the Christ? I cannot even begin to fully imagine how much that would change.

It has fascinated me to see how the comments have ranged (here and in the derby forum thread) from people guardedly pointing out that the Bible isn't history to refutations of the efficacy of the pill in the face of god's omnipotence.

I'm honestly really enjoying the comments. ALL of them.

I really appreciate your comments, and agree that it will take a brave soul to wear or display this. And I most certainly will be having this produced post-derby, as it's a foregone conclusion that it's not going to win. And that's fine by me. I think I may do it as a poster too.

Actually, I didn't either. Along with being mostly ignorant of classical art and literature, I'm also woefully detached from the mainstream music scene.

I wouldn't even recognize artists that I like. I never know what anyone looks like. I even live in the "live music capital of the world."
Not that I have anything against Nirvana, only heard a couple of their songs and didn't think they were bad. Just never got into them.

I like how they'll reject movie references as non-history, but a tv reference is in the top 4, and biblical references are apparently 'historical'. Not that I don't like the design, I'm just saying...

its no wonder people hate you here, because your a dickish fool. you prob were the kid who told the teacher when other kids did stuff wrong. you just cost a guy money and i hope you feel bad about itt.

If you want people to take you serious here and listen to your point, you might first want to try expanding your vocabulary. You sound like the little kid who, after learning his first "adult" word, quickly learns he is not allowed to use it at home so he uses it constantly when mom and dad aren't around to hear him, to make himself feel big.
However, in this case, you are simply wrong, and no amount of whining is going to change that.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

dina1234 wrote:there are at least 15 dinosaur pictures in this derby. is it really possible that this is among the best three t-shirt designs relating an alternate history? of the (very) few shirts that actually do relate anything remotely historical (dinosaurs surviving and joining the communist party is not one of those) clearly started with the "artist" googling "history," finding a famous photograph and changing the colors of the flag - or something along those unoriginal lines. sadly, even those shirts are superior to any shirt claiming to alternate history by imagining dinosaurs doing human things. this entire derby failed miserably because of a total lack of historical knowledge and creativity. this is laziness and ignorance at its worst.

I think charges of ignorance might be a little bit harsh. People are free to design whatever they want, it's up the voter. Many of the shirts look cool at first glance, especially with the titles but when I think about explaining why Kurt Cobain is playing a cello I'm less inclined to buy the shirt.

I think there are a few standout shirts that really do present interesting/creative alternative histories like Van Gogh cutting off a different limb, witches being welcomed in Salem, and especially the turkey being chosen over the eagle. That said I don't think that there's anything wrong with silly t-shirts with interesting situations, however ridiculous. Columbus + Gilligan obviously had no chance of happening as one is fictional, but it makes for an entertaining shirt. More importantly it doesn't need explaining, you just look at it and smile.
